MICROBIOLOGY LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (part-time, temporary M, W, Fri)
Summary: The Microbiology Lab Technician will use analytical skills to perform a variety of laboratory functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Media preparation to support laboratory testing.
- Ensure cleanliness of laboratory, including washing glassware.
- Maintain viable bacterial, yeast, and mold culture inventory.
- Maintain accurate records following Good Documentation Practices (GDP) on all activities conducted in the laboratory.
- Maintain laboratory inventory and receive supplies.
- Documentation of daily laboratory temperatures.
- Sample receiving and entry into testing logbook.
- Creation, review, and submission of sample result certificate of analysis (COA).
- Data entry of sample testing status.
- Logbook request/creation.
Shift: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 7:30AM-4:00PM; September through February
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, the Microbiology Lab Technician must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, working on his/her own, or as part of a team. The Microbiology Lab Technician has the ability to prioritize and complete tasks efficiently and in a timely manner. Strong attention to detail and focus are paramount. Education/Experience:
- Required: High School diploma
- Preferred: Some college courses or work experience in a laboratory setting.
- Preferred: Experience practicing general laboratory techniques such as equipment maintenance, preparation of laboratory media, weighing using a balance, operation of autoclave, aseptic
technique, glassware washing, room cleaning, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), current good documentation practices (cGDP), processing incoming shipments of supplies, basic data entry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply critical thinking skills to practical problems.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and write in English and follow Standard Operating Procedures.
Math Ability:
Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction.
Computer Skills:
Microsoft office.

Physical Demands:
The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand or sit for long periods of time. The employee is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch down.
