Our accredited Office-Based Lab (OBL) delivers hospital-level procedures in a streamlined outpatient environment focused on outcomes, safety, and patient experience.
Position Overview
The PRN Registered Nurse (RN) plays a critical role in both procedural support and post-anesthesia recovery within the OBL. This position is responsible for delivering safe, high-quality clinical care during vascular procedures and ensuring optimal patient monitoring through recovery and discharge.
This role requires strong clinical judgment, rapid recognition of complications, and adherence to standardized OBL protocols. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced procedural setting and is experienced in vascular, cath lab, PACU, or interventional environments.
Key Responsibilities
Procedural Support
- Assist physician during endovascular procedures, maintaining sterile technique and procedural flow
- Administer and monitor moderate sedation per protocol (if applicable within scope)
- Continuously monitor hemodynamic status, cardiac rhythm, oxygenation, and patient response
- Prepare procedural room, equipment, and medications in alignment with case requirements
- Ensure accurate intra-procedural documentation within EMR
Post-Procedure Recovery (Primary Focus)
- Receive patients from procedure suite and initiate recovery protocols
- Monitor vital signs, cardiac status, neurovascular checks, and access sites
- Manage sheath removal and hemostasis per protocol (manual/compression devices)
- Identify and escalate complications (bleeding, hematoma, arrhythmia, hypotension, pain, neurologic changes)
- Administer medications and manage pain control as ordered
- Assess readiness for discharge, including ambulation and stability criteria
- Provide detailed patient and caregiver education on post-procedure care, medications, and warning signs
- Complete accurate and timely EMR documentation, including recovery and discharge notes
Care Coordination & Workflow
- Collaborate with physician, NP, and clinical team to maintain efficient case flow and turnover
- Support room turnover, recovery bay readiness, and supply management
- Reinforce discharge planning and coordinate follow-up care
- Maintain compliance with infection control, safety standards, and OBL accreditation requirements
Qualifications
Required
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – Texas
- ACLS certification (required)
- BLS certification
- 2+ years of experience in one or more of the following:
- Cath Lab
- Interventional Radiology
- Vascular Surgery
- PACU / Post-Anesthesia Recovery
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Proficiency with EMR documentation (athenaOne or similar preferred)
Preferred
- Experience in Office-Based Lab (OBL) setting
- Moderate sedation competency
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Experience with vascular access management and sheath removal
