Position Summary
The Site Director leads the planning, development, coordination, and management of out-of-school-time programs at Rosa Parks Elementary, including Power Scholars Academy and school-year camps at the Buchanan YMCA. The Director ensures the delivery of high-quality, engaging, and inclusive experiences while maintaining compliance with program standards and partner expectations.
This role is responsible for staff supervision, operational oversight, and partnership engagement. Key responsibilities include coaching staff, building strong relationships with school administrators, families, community partners, and YMCA colleagues, and collaborating with senior leadership to align programs with organizational goals and youth development strategies.
Additional responsibilities include fiscal oversight (budgeting and contract administration), participation in Youth Development initiatives, and support of the YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign. The Director serves as a liaison to public and private partners in support of the YMCA’s mission and values.
This position requires adaptability, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for all participants and staff.
Job Responsibilities
Program Development & Management
- Oversee the planning, supervision, and daily operations of out-of-school-time programs, including after-school care, Power Scholars Academy, and day camps.
- Ensure effective program implementation aligned with YMCA of San Francisco’s strategic priorities, with a focus on safety, quality, and fiscal responsibility.
- Coordinate daily programming, including educational field trips and activity schedules, in partnership with instructors and specialists.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all participants and staff.
- Design enrichment and academic activities aligned with YMCA Youth Development principles and partner expectations.
- Incorporate feedback from youth, families, and staff into program planning.
- Support staff in delivering culturally responsive, developmentally appropriate, and engaging activities for children from diverse backgrounds.
- Ensure all programming follows YMCA policies and child safety protocols.
Participant Supervision & Safety
- Monitor participant well-being and maintain required staff-to-student ratios.
- Respond to incidents and emergencies according to YMCA policies and procedures, reinforcing consistent safety and behavior expectations.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, risk management practices, and mandated reporting requirements.
Staff Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise and schedule staff to ensure appropriate coverage during program hours.
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback.
- Support staff development by modeling YMCA leadership competencies and offering growth opportunities.
- Promote alignment with youth development practices and organizational values.
- Foster positive, collaborative working relationships among staff, participants, volunteers, and partners.
Administrative, Fiscal & Compliance Oversight
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, emergency forms, and required documentation.
- Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, procedures, and licensing requirements.
- Assist with budget development, monitor expenditures, and manage contracts and agreements.
- Support data collection and reporting for grants and funding requirements.
- Contribute to fundraising efforts and support a culture of philanthropy.
- Participate in branch leadership activities and organizational events.
- Apply problem-solving and change management strategies to improve program effectiveness.
Family & Community Engagement
- Serve as a primary contact for families regarding registration, payments, and program information.
- Address concerns professionally and ensure timely follow-up.
- Promote open, respectful communication with families, staff, school partners, and volunteers.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- 3+ years of experience in youth programs, including leadership or supervisory experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in professional, community, or youth development settings.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Availability Monday through Friday, with flexibility for occasional evenings or weekends; this is an in-person role.
- Familiarity with school-based or community-based programs.
- Current TB clearance (within the past 2 years).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD).
- Background in youth camps, after-school programs, or enrichment programs.
- Bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese, or Japanese.
- Knowledge of California after-school licensing requirements or YMCA training frameworks.
- Teaching credential or experience in education.
- Experience with STEAM programming.
- Familiarity with Salesforce or similar systems.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This position operates in a dynamic environment across both school and YMCA program settings. Work takes place in classrooms, multipurpose rooms, outdoor play areas, community spaces, and administrative offices. The role includes regular interaction with children, families, staff, and school and community partners. Noise levels vary depending on program activities, and the position involves balancing multiple responsibilities while maintaining a supportive and professional presence.
The role is primarily in person and may include participation in events or activities during evenings or weekends. This position requires the ability to move comfortably throughout program and school environments, including standing, walking, bending, and participating in light physical activities. The Director may occasionally lift or carry program supplies (up to 25 pounds) and assist with the setup and breakdown of activity spaces. Responsibilities include supervising children in indoor and outdoor settings, supporting field trips, and responding to situations that may require mobility and attentiveness.

Salary Description
The Site Director position offers a compensation range of $72,000 – $80,000 per year. This rate is based on salary benchmarking for similar roles and is aligned with grant fund approvals and requirements for the position.
