Schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
Teach approximately 2–3 math classes each day.
Salary: $16,000–$20,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience.

Position Overview
Westlawn School is seeking a passionate mathematics educator to join our faculty as a Part-Time Math Learning Specialist serving both Middle and Upper School students.

Westlawn's Middle School and Upper School cohorts are intentionally small, with a maximum of eight students per Division homeroom. Math instruction is delivered in small groups, allowing teachers to build meaningful relationships, individualize instruction, and help students develop both confidence and conceptual understanding.
This role is ideal for an educator who enjoys making mathematics engaging, accessible, and relevant while working closely with students in a collaborative learning environment.
Primary ResponsibilitiesMathematics Instruction
- Teach approximately 2–3 Middle and Upper School mathematics classes each day.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of twice-exceptional learners.
- Design engaging, hands-on learning experiences that promote conceptual understanding and problem-solving.
- Assess student progress using Westlawn's mastery-based approach to learning.
- Provide meaningful feedback that supports student growth and confidence.
- Collaborate with Learning Guides regarding student progress, accommodations, and instructional needs.
Student Support
- Foster positive mathematical mindsets and confidence.
- Support executive functioning and organizational strategies during instruction.
- Encourage perseverance, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
- Build meaningful relationships that help students feel successful in mathematics.
School Community
- Collaborate with Learning Guides, Content Specialists, and school leadership.
- Participate in faculty meetings and professional learning as appropriate.
- Support Westlawn's collaborative, student-centered culture.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary and experiential learning opportunities when appropriate.
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Engineering, Science, or a related field.
- Experience teaching middle school and/or high school mathematics.
- Strong conceptual understanding of mathematics and the ability to explain concepts in multiple ways.
- Collaborative, flexible, and student-centered approach to teaching.
North Carolina teaching license is preferred but not required.
Experience working with neurodivergent or twice-exceptional learners is preferred but not required.
