Role Overview
BEPC is actively seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our customer's team in Santa Clara, California. This role supports the development of an innovative, next-generation single-molecule DNA sequencing platform by contributing to the design, development, and manufacturing of consumable microfluidic devices.
The ideal candidate will have an educational background in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, along with hands-on laboratory experience supporting product development, manufacturing processes, and engineering testing. This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams developing cutting-edge biotechnology solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support flowcell manufacturing, assembly, and process development activities.
- Assist senior engineers with mechanical design using SolidWorks.
- Perform dimensional and mechanical measurements, analyze data, and prepare technical reports.
- Conduct surface metrology and material characterization.
- Perform component testing, quality inspections, and visual evaluations.
- Prepare samples for external laboratory analysis.
- Manage component and subcomponent inventory, including shipping and receiving activities.
- Support engineering projects by performing a variety of laboratory and manufacturing tasks as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation of engineering activities and test results.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support project objectives and timelines.
- Ensure work is completed safely while maintaining high quality standards.
Qualifications Required
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Materials Science
- Or a related engineering discipline
- 1–2 years of professional engineering experience (hands-on laboratory experience is highly desirable).
- Proficiency with SolidWorks.
- Strong experience using Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or equivalent software.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative laboratory and engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with microfabrication or microfluidic devices.
- Knowledge of materials science and engineering.
- Experience with metrology equipment or microscopy systems.
- Experience supporting manufacturing process development.
- Laboratory testing and characterization experience.
