About Axis:
Axis is a high-octane collective of interdisciplinary designers and problem-solvers who believe that "good enough" is the enemy of excellence. At our core, we bridge the gap between visionary architecture and precision engineering, stripping away the silos of the traditional AEC industry to deliver seamless, buildable brilliance. From the first sketch to the final structural bolt, we work harder and think smarter, obsessing over the details that turn complex challenges into eye-catching and enduring landmarks. We don’t just design spaces; we engineer the future with a relentless drive for innovation and a grit that ensures every project stands as a testament to what's possible.
Axis is committed to fostering a culture that promotes progressive thinking in finding novel solutions to tackling complex design challenges.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Architect who thrives at the intersection of bold aesthetics and technical reality. In this role, you won’t just be designing buildings; you will be the driving force behind our architectural studio, shaping the "design language" of our firm and leading a team of talented architects and designers. You will work side-by-side with our entire interdisciplinary team to ensure that every project we deliver is both visually breathtaking and poised to delight future generations.
The primary responsibility of this position is to lead the architectural delivery of several long-standing national account programs, providing technical leadership, project oversight, and client service while working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams. This individual will assume increasing responsibility for these programs while working alongside senior architectural leadership during a planned transition of responsibilities over the next several years.
In addition, the Senior Architect will participate in a diverse range of commercial, civic, mixed-use, industrial, and public-sector projects as workload and firm priorities require. The position also includes involvement in proposals, qualifications packages, and client presentations that support the continued growth of the architectural practice.
While experience with national account or prototype programs is beneficial, it is not required. We recognize that exceptional architects come from many different backgrounds. We are seeking a technically strong leader with sound judgment, outstanding project management skills, and the ability to quickly learn new clients, project types, and delivery processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead architectural production and technical delivery for assigned national account programs and commercial projects.
- Serve as Architect of Record for projects in multiple states and pursue additional state registrations as needed.
- Manage projects from programming and schematic design through construction administration.
- Provide technical leadership, quality control, and mentoring to Project Architects, Project Designers, and Architectural Designers.
- Coordinate architectural design with structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other engineering disciplines.
- Review construction documents to ensure technical quality, coordination, constructability, and consistency with firm standards.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, franchise representatives, and regulatory agencies.
- Support construction administration activities, including submittal reviews, RFIs, field observations, and technical problem solving.
- Prepare project proposals, qualifications packages, fee proposals, and professional services agreements.
- Participate in interviews, presentations, and project pursuits for public and private clients.
- Assist in workload planning, staffing, project scheduling, and technical resource allocation.
- Contribute to the continued development of BIM standards, quality assurance procedures, technical documentation, and project delivery best practices.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's (required) or master’s (preferred) degree in architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch) from an accredited program
- 15+ years of professional architectural experience
- Active NCARB-certified Licensed Architect (RA) with ability for licensure in Georgia in six (6) months and willingness to pursue licensure in additional states
- Demonstrated experience leading commercial architectural projects from concept through construction.
- Experience serving as Architect of Record and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
- Advanced proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
- Strong knowledge of the International Building Code, accessibility requirements, and applicable building codes.
- Excellent understanding of construction systems, detailing, and technical documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proposal writing and client presentations.
- Excellent organizational, mentoring, and leadership abilities.
The Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for a technically accomplished Senior Architect who enjoys leading project teams, mentoring younger professionals, building strong client relationships, and delivering exceptional architectural solutions.
The ideal candidate is collaborative, organized, and comfortable balancing technical leadership with client service. Success in this role is driven less by experience with a particular building type and more by technical expertise, sound judgment, leadership, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering coordinated, well-executed projects.
This position offers significant opportunity for professional growth and increasing leadership responsibilities over time. However, its immediate mission is to strengthen one of the firm's most important practice areas, support long-standing national account clients, and contribute to the continued success and growth of Axis's architectural practice.
Experience That Will Help You Succeed:
We believe exceptional Architects develop through a wide variety of professional experiences. Direct experience with national account or prototype programs is beneficial, but it is not a prerequisite for success at Axis.
Experience in one or more of the following areas will help you succeed in this role:
- Commercial, retail, restaurant, hospitality, industrial, civic, educational, healthcare, mixed-use, or multifamily projects.
- Managing multiple concurrent projects and competing deadlines.
- Leading multidisciplinary design teams.
- Multi-state permitting, licensing, or regulatory coordination.
- Standardized building programs or long-term client programs.
- Construction administration and technical problem solving.
- Proposal preparation, qualifications packages, and client interviews.
- Mentoring architects, designers, and project teams.
