What You'll Do
As our Veterinary Assistant, you'll provide hands-on medical care and support for shelter animals while assisting our veterinarian with a wide variety of medical and surgical procedures. Your work will directly improve the health, comfort, and well-being of animals awaiting their forever homes.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform intake examinations and administer vaccinations according to shelter protocols.
- Administer oral, injectable, and topical medications.
- Assist with surgical procedures, including patient preparation, anesthesia monitoring, intubation, nail trims, microchipping, and post-operative care.
- Perform diagnostic testing including fecals, SNAP tests, urinalysis, and skin and ear cytology.
- Maintain accurate paper and electronic medical records.
- Provide compassionate nursing care and first aid to shelter animals.
- Assist with humane euthanasia following established protocols.
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain the veterinary clinic, equipment, and surgical instruments.
- Ensure medical supplies remain stocked and organized.
- Support foster caregivers and provide exceptional customer service to adopters, volunteers, and visitors.

Qualifications
- Associate degree in a Veterinary Assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience handling and restraining animals safely and compassionately.
- Knowledge of animal health, vaccinations, diagnostics, anesthesia, and surgical procedures.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and remain on your feet for extended periods.

Work Schedule
This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Flexibility is required, including frequent evenings, weekends, and occasional extended hours to meet the needs of the animals in our care.
