We are seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join a collaborative, professional, and fast-paced HR team. This is a great opportunity for an HR professional who enjoys being hands-on, supporting employees and leadership, and helping keep day-to-day HR operations running smoothly.
This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, approachable, detail-oriented, and comfortable handling confidential information. You'll work closely with Directors and other leadership while supporting a wide range of HR functions.
- Serve as the primary front-facing contact for the HR Department, assisting employees, applicants, officials, and visitors.
- Support the HR Director with calendar management, meeting coordination, communications, and department operations.
- Process personnel actions including step increases, promotions, reclassifications, and employee status changes.
- Coordinate pre-employment requirements including background checks, drug screenings, fingerprinting, and physical examinations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential personnel files and HR records.
- Conduct part-time employee orientations and provide backup support for recruiting and interviews.
- Complete employment verifications and respond to employee and external inquiries.
- Process and reconcile invoices while assisting with budgeting and financial reporting.
- Prepare correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, and presentations using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Coordinate employee recognition events, retirements, and professional milestone celebrations.
- Evaluate HR processes and workflows and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support HR compliance, reporting, and special projects as needed.
- 3–5 years of HR or related administrative experience preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365, particularly Word and Excel.
- Strong calendar management and organizational skills.
- Experience with an ATS or HRIS/HCM system preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable handling highly confidential and sensitive information.
- Professional, approachable, and service-oriented personality.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and work independently.
- Experience in a municipal or union environment is preferred but not required.
- Valid driver's license required.
