JOB PURPOSE
The Compounding Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in the pharmaceutical industry by preparing customized medications tailored to individualized patient needs. They ensure the accurate compounding of medications following established protocols and regulatory guidelines to meet patient prescriptions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Prepare intravenous (IV) compounds, following established formulas and protocols.
2. Dispense and fill medication orders accurately, including labeling and packaging, following sterile and aseptic techniques.
3. Maintain a clean and organized compounding area, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
4. Verify compounding calculations and double-check prepared medications for accuracy.
5. Perform data entry tasks accurately and efficiently to update patient records and prescription information.
6. Collaborate with healthcare professionals and pharmacists to address medication-related queries and concerns.
7. Monitor inventory levels of compounding ingredients and supplies;
8. Stock medications and compounding ingredients, ensuring adequate inventory levels.
9. Weekly medications orders
10. Answer phone calls and assist customers with inquiries regarding medications and compounding services.
11. Submit prior authorizations and communicate with insurance providers to facilitate medication coverage for patients.
12. Travel between Torrance and El Segundo
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
1. High school diploma or equivalent required
2. Certification as a Pharmacy Technician required
3. Proven experience (at least 1 year) as a compounding pharmacy technician, with a deep understanding of compounding principles and techniques
4. Proficiency in mathematical calculations and mesasurements
5. Strong attention to detail and adherence to strict quality and safety standards
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
7. Familiarity with pharmacy software and computer literacy, ability to type 50+ WPM
8. Background check required
WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Work in a pharmacy setting, often standing for extended periods
2. Exposure to pharmaceutical compounds, chemicals, and equipment
3. Requires manual dexterity and ability to lift and carry moderate loads
DIRECT REPORTS
1. The Compounding Pharmacy Technician typically works under the supervision of dispensing physician or director of clinical services. They may provide guidance and training to new pharmacy technicians or interns as needed.
