Special Education Teacher
Autism Angels ABA Sensory Respite Center
Position Summary
Autism Angels ABA Sensory Respite Center is seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated Special Education Teacher to support children with autism and other developmental disabilities. The teacher will create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment while supporting each child's educational, behavioral, social, communication, and sensory needs.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized educational activities based on each child's abilities, needs, and goals.
- Provide direct instruction using developmentally appropriate and evidence-based teaching strategies.
- Collaborate with RBTs, BCBAs, therapists, parents, and other members of the child's care team.
- Support communication, social skills, independence, and daily living skills.
- Incorporate sensory-friendly activities and accommodations into the learning environment.
- Use positive reinforcement and proactive behavior-support strategies.
- Collect and document student progress and behavioral/educational data as required.
- Maintain accurate daily records, progress notes, and classroom documentation.
- Promote a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment.
- Follow individualized plans, safety procedures, and center policies.
- Communicate professionally and regularly with families regarding student progress and needs.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development.
- Assist with classroom organization, cleaning, and preparation of instructional materials.
- Respond appropriately to challenging behaviors while maintaining student dignity and safety.
- Follow all applicable confidentiality, mandated-reporting, health, safety, and compliance requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
- Wisconsin special education teaching license preferred/required as applicable to the position.
- Experience working with children with autism or developmental disabilities preferred.
- Knowledge of IEPs, individualized instruction, behavior-support strategies, and data collection.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in challenging situations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with families and multidisciplinary professionals.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Must successfully complete required background and employment screenings.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with ABA principles and autism support.
- Experience working with children who have communication, sensory, behavioral, or developmental needs.
- Familiarity with visual schedules, prompting, reinforcement, and structured teaching.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Compassionate, family-centered approach.
Work Environment
This position involves working directly with children in a sensory-friendly educational and respite environment. The teacher may be required to sit on the floor, stand, walk, assist with activities, and respond quickly to children's needs throughout the day.
