Position Summary:
The Success Coach is responsible for initiating proactive interventions with students. This position will provide proactive assistance to Undergraduate Students at Utica University.
Each Success Coach will oversee a caseload of students and meet with each student at least once each semester to create a course schedule. It is expected that students will also meet with their Success Coach several times to address other issues (transition, academic, etc.).
Success Coaches will be assigned based on academic school within the University and will be integrated into the school/major areas of responsibility by attending school-sponsored events and through various interactions and partnerships with faculty. This position will work with Undergraduate students in the Humanities, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences.
Responsibilities:
- Completes ongoing assessments of all students in areas of academic/transition needs.
- Assists students with course registration and academic planning in conjunction with the faculty academic advisor.
- Assists students with academic coaching and preparedness in areas such as time management, organization, study skills, etc. as needed
- Follow up and assist students who receive academic alerts in a personal and timely manner.
- Updates student case notes and takes detailed notes on all student meetings.
- Attends weekly meetings with the Center for Student Success and School or department meetings as necessary.
- Triages the needs and questions of all students and helps to direct and connect students with appropriate offices and support programs.
- Assists with programming, presentations, and events.
- Takes an active role in the development of the department's strategic and operational plans as required by department leadership.
- Actively participate in the department's/division's ongoing assessment processes, as required by the unit's supervisor or assessment coordinator.
- May serves as an instructor for UCC 101- First Year Seminar.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree is required. Master's preferred.
- Prior experience working with University students in a residential setting and University programming experience is preferred.
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
- Knowledge of Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Drive.
- Must be knowledgeable and up to date on student retention and persistence trends and strategies in higher education.
- Preferred knowledge of EAB Navigate, Banner, and Argos.
- High Consideration to those who have teaching experience or prior experience in student success.
- Must be able to attend special events outside of normal office hours. This includes weekends and evenings as needed.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- This position does not supervise other full time staff.
