Job Description:
This role serves a dual function supporting both university-wide communications and the Department of Public Safety. The position is responsible for managing incoming communications from the public, parents, and internal stakeholders, while also supporting campus safety operations by dispatching officers and monitoring security systems.
Under limited supervision, this role requires the ability to manage multiple communication channels simultaneously, assess urgent situations, and coordinate responses to ensure a safe and well-informed campus community.
Key Responsibilities
University Communications Support
- Answer and manage incoming calls from the public, parents, agencies, and campus community

Provide accurate information or route inquiries to appropriate offices

Serve as a central resource for general campus information

Maintain a high level of professionalism and customer service
Public Safety Dispatch & Operations
- Operate multi-line telephone and multi-channel radio systems

Monitor security systems and alarms
-
Receive, assess, and prioritize calls for service

Dispatch officers and coordinate response efforts
-
Maintain communication with field units and provide support as needed

Enter and update information in dispatch and reporting systems

Receive and share critical information from multiple sources
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications
- Flexibility to work varied shifts as needed

Ability to operate multi-line phone systems and radio communications equipment

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in dispatch, emergency communications, or public safety environment

Familiarity with systems such as Banner, Report Exec, or Bosscars

Previous experience in higher education or campus safety operations

Training or experience in call triage or emergency response coordination

Experience training or mentoring staff
Additional Information:
Pay Rate: $17.74
- The hiring pay rate above represents the University's good faith estimate at the time of posting in compliance with the Albany County Salary Transparency Law.
