Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and skilled Heavy Wrecker Operator to join our team and lead the safe and efficient recovery of vehicles and heavy equipment on construction sites and roadways. In this vital role, you will operate specialized heavy-duty wreckers and a variety of construction machinery to assist in vehicle recovery, site clearing, and equipment transportation. Your expertise will ensure that operations run smoothly, safely, and in compliance with all safety regulations. Duties
- Operate heavy wrecker trucks equipped with winches, cranes, and lifting devices to recover disabled or damaged vehicles from accident scenes or construction sites
- Safely maneuver and operate a range of heavy machinery including bulldozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, cranes, front loader trucks, dump trucks, water trucks, roll-off trucks, farm machinery, and tankers as needed for site preparation and recovery tasks
- Assist with the transportation of construction materials such as concrete mixers and other heavy equipment across job sites
- Conduct routine inspections of wreckers and related equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance before each shift
- Follow all safety protocols during operations to prevent accidents and injuries on-site or roadside
- Communicate effectively with team members, site managers, and emergency responders during recovery operations
- Maintain detailed logs of work performed, equipment usage, and safety checks for accountability and reporting purposes
Skills
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, cranes, and front loader trucks in construction environments
- Strong mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot minor issues with wreckers and associated machinery
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with experience driving heavy-duty trucks including dump trucks, water trucks, roll-off trucks, tanker trucks, and other specialized vehicles
- Construction site experience demonstrating familiarity with safety standards and operational procedures
- Ability to handle complex recovery operations efficiently under pressure while maintaining safety standards
- Knowledge of construction materials handling including concrete mixers and farm machinery is a plus
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with team members and emergency services during recovery efforts
