The State of Wisconsin, Department of Military Affairs (DMA) is hiring a Facilities Repair Worker-Advanced position (working title: FRW- Adv).

The exact location will be determined at the time of the job offer based on applicant preference and space availability.

This position will serve the entire Area 6 county area which includes: Jefferson, Washington, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Walworth, Racine and Kenosha counties.

The schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Position Summary

Works under the general supervision of the Building/Grounds Supervisor, Area 6. May also fall under a Lead Worker or Facility Maintenance Specialist. The position completes inspections and accomplishes minor maintenance, repair and structural alterations on mechanical and building systems. Completes all required preventative maintenance functions and meets all interval requirements. Maintains adequate inventory supplies, materials and equipment to accomplish all job-related duties. Accurately completes all required paperwork and submits as required. Assists in monitoring various contracted services. Mows lawn and removes snow as required including using appropriate equipment when necessary. Works at other DMA facilities and performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Information

Starting pay is $23.69 / hr.

This position is in the 03/12 pay schedule/range. A 12-month probation will be required.

For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

Required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Must be physically able to lift and move objects in excess of 50 pounds.

Must be able to operate lift equipment and have no limitations for working in high areas.

Knowledge and adherence of safety practices utilized in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and general building maintenance, to include lock out/tag out. Ability to identify hazardous materials and situations. Take corrective measures when unsafe acts or conditions are observed.

In order to gain access to DMA facilities or air bases, and to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled, DMA will conduct a comprehensive background check.

The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

This is a State of Wisconsin Civil Service position. The DMA does not require current or previous military experience.

All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.

Qualifications

Candidates who meet minimum qualifications will have experience with:

Basic computer skills such as Microsoft office, e-mail, Microsoft TEAMS.

AND

Utilization of common tools used in building maintenance.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, well-qualified candidates will also have the following preferred qualifications:

Landscaping or grounds maintenance

Basic building repair and maintenance (electrical, mechanical, plumbing, etc.)
