Technical Specialist – Estimating Support & Risk Analysis
Position Summary
We are seeking a Technical Specialist to support estimating and project risk management activities through quantitative risk analysis, estimate review and comparison, data analysis, reporting, and estimating systems support.
This role will work closely with estimators, project controls professionals, engineers, and management to analyze cost and schedule data, support estimate reviews, develop quantitative risk models, and provide clear, data-driven information to support project decision-making.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with @RISK and quantitative risk analysis, along with an understanding of cost estimating processes. Candidates should be familiar with estimating software such as WinEst; however, extensive hands-on WinEst estimating experience is not required.
Prior nuclear industry experience is not required.
Key ResponsibilitiesRisk Modeling and Analysis
- Develop and maintain quantitative risk models using @RISK software to support project estimating and management decision-making.
- Perform probabilistic cost and/or schedule risk analyses using Monte Carlo simulation techniques.
- Analyze estimate uncertainty, project risk, contingency requirements, and confidence levels.
- Develop and maintain risk modeling inputs, assumptions, distributions, templates, and supporting documentation.
- Collaborate with estimators, project controls personnel, engineers, and management to identify risk factors and establish appropriate modeling assumptions.
- Present risk analysis results in a clear and meaningful format to support project and management decision-making.
Estimate Review and Analysis
- Support the review and processing of project cost estimates.
- Analyze and compare baseline, current, and historical estimates to identify trends, variances, and key cost drivers.
- Assist in developing estimate comparison reports and other analytical materials.
- Review and organize estimate data and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Work with estimating and project personnel to support estimate evaluations and improve estimating processes.
Presentation and Reporting Support
- Develop, organize, and maintain estimate review presentations and management briefing materials.
- Compile cost, schedule, risk, and other supporting data into clear and professional presentations and reports.
- Coordinate with estimators and other project personnel to ensure review materials are accurate, complete, and delivered on schedule.
- Update reports and presentation materials based on estimate revisions and review feedback.
- Support consistent and standardized reporting practices.
Data and Database Support
- Support the development, maintenance, and improvement of databases and data used for estimating, risk analysis, and reporting.
- Help ensure the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of estimating and project data.
- Develop reports, queries, and analytical tools to improve data analysis and reporting efficiency.
- Identify opportunities to improve or automate data management and reporting processes.
Estimating Systems Support
- Support estimating processes and workflows involving WinEst.
- Assist with estimate data organization, analysis, and reporting.
- Work collaboratively with estimating personnel to support estimate reviews and related activities.
- Support the consistent application of estimating standards and processes.
- Assist with estimating system functionality and data management as needed.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Experience using @RISK software for quantitative risk modeling and analysis.
- Experience performing or supporting Monte Carlo analysis for cost and/or schedule risk.
- Experience working with, reviewing, analyzing, or processing cost estimates.
- Familiarity with WinEst or similar estimating software and an understanding of estimating processes and workflows.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with data analysis, reporting, and/or database management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to develop clear, professional presentations and technical reports.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting project controls, cost engineering, estimating, or project risk management functions.
- Experience analyzing cost and schedule data for large or complex capital projects.
- Experience with estimating databases, reporting tools, or data visualization.
- Experience working in the utility, energy, power generation, engineering, construction, or other complex project environments.
- Familiarity with WinEst estimating software.
