Position Overview:
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for a Per Diem Registered Nurse.
The Per Diem Registered Nurse (RN) integral member of the healthcare team at the UNLV Student Health Center (SHC)/Faculty and Staff Treatment (FAST) Center on the main Maryland Parkway campus that has operating hours M - F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (no weekends or after-hours). The Per Diem RN work hours vary based upon staffing needs and the RN's availability.
Our collaborative, multidisciplinary team works together in our nationally accredited center to provide high-quality, compassionate and accessible primary care services and health education to our diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and dependents aged five years of age and older. By delivering individualized, respectful, culturally competent care to each patient, the per diem RN supports the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of our UNLV community, empowering these individuals to succeed in their academic, professional and personal pursuits. The Student Health Center/Faculty and Staff Treatment Center is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and is within the Student Wellness Unit in the Division of Student Affairs at UNLV.
Duties:
- Implement the nursing process (e.g., conduct physiological, psychological, sociological, and spiritual assessments to plan, intervene, and evaluate patient care, including follow-up and patient education)
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, clinical procedures, treatments, and diagnostic testing (such as visual acuity, peak flow, EKG, and spirometry)
- Properly prepare, store and administer medications and vaccines prescribed by healthcare providers according to state, national, and accreditation standards
- Provide health education on a variety of health conditions, including vaccine-preventable diseases, to facilitate informed, self-directed healthcare decisions by patients
- Triage patients to determine level of care needed and maximize timely, safe and appropriate patient care provision
- Recognize and respond to emergencies within the Student Wellness Center (SWC) and provide immediate first aid to campus visitors in accordance with established accreditation standards until transferred to other care
- Accurately document all care provided within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with proper grammar, spelling, and professional terminology
- Participate in vaccination outreach clinics to various academic programs on campus, as well as the medical district campus
- Maintain strict data privacy and confidentiality of all patient records in compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, and local state and national laws
Required Qualifications:
- Active, unrestricted Nevada State Board of Nursing Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- All candidates must pass a background screening
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- One-year clinical experience in primary care, ambulatory care, college health, or community health setting
