Responsibilities
- Operate flatbed trucks safely and efficiently on over-the-road (OTR) routes, adhering to all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Load and unload freight, including logistics cargo handling involving hazardous materials (hazmat) and dangerous goods, following proper safety procedures.
- Secure loads properly using appropriate tie-downs, ensuring compliance with safety standards for truck loading and unloading.
- Use GPS navigation systems to plan optimal routes, monitor traffic conditions, and ensure on-time deliveries across diverse locations.
- Transport various types of freight, including refrigerated trailers, tanker loads, automobile transportation, and other specialized cargo requiring manual handling skills.
- Maintain accurate delivery documentation and logs, including shift reports and incident reports, in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections before and after trips to ensure the tractor-trailer’s safety and readiness for operation.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience in truck driving, particularly with flatbed trailers or similar freight transportation roles.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, hazard materials regulations, DOT regulations, and hazardous goods handling procedures.
- Ability to operate manual transmission trucks confidently and handle manual loading/unloading tasks.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems and route planning for efficient delivery execution.
- Experience with logistics cargo handling, load securing techniques, and delivery driving procedures.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols related to over-the-road (OTR) driving routes and hazardous materials transportation.
- Physical ability to perform manual handling tasks required for loading/unloading freight safely.
