Registration Clerk, ED, Patient Access, Part-time
Responsible collecting and documenting patient demographics and insurance information. Assist patients, families, and/or visitors via phone or in person. Explain consent forms to patients and obtain patient signatures on all required forms Verifies insurance eligibility on all patients. Assist other areas within the Patient Access department as needed. Maintains confidentiality of all information. Strives to maintain a positive and professional atmosphere.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Answers phone calls promptly.
- Knowledge to utilize scheduling system within our system for the designated clinic/office.
- Knowledge of equipment including postage machine, copier, printer, computer, and shredder.
- Requires the patient/representative to sign consent for treatment and all other forms regarding their visit.
- Obtains patient financial information and copies insurance cards.
- Verify patient insurance and demographic information.
- Provides patients with patient information packets and answers questions patients may have concerning hospital, billing, etc.
- Knowledgeable in obtaining correct patient information and maintains a low error rate.
- Counts cash drawer at the beginning and end of shift.
- Collect and process co-payments and/or payments from patients.
- Maintains a copy of physicians on-call.
- Scan all patient paperwork into the electronic medical record.
- Supports co-workers and engages in positive interactions.
- Communicates professionally and timely with internal and external patients, families, visitors, etc.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and effectively deals with difficult situations
- Demonstrates a positive work environment with patients, visitors, co-workers, etc.
- Aware of patient’s rights and importance of confidentiality.
- Assists in other areas of practice if needed.
Role Minimum Qualifications
Required Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Minimum of 1 year in a customer-service-related field.
- Ability to create a friendly, cooperative atmosphere for patients, visitors, and staff members.
- Exhibits excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Computer knowledge and keyboarding experience.
- Follows proper departmental and hospital procedures.
- Performs basic math calculations.
- Ability to work in a busy, loud, and demanding environment.
- Ability to multitask and must be detail oriented.
- Flexible and innovative.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare, insurance, or office setting experience preferred
