Position Summary
The Grocery Department Stocker is responsible for stocking, rotating, organizing, and maintaining products throughout all areas of the grocery department, including but not limited to: Grocery, Dairy, Frozen, HBC (Health & Beauty Care), and perishable departments.. This position helps ensure shelves and displays are fully stocked, clean, organized, and customer-ready while supporting overall store operations and delivering excellent customer service.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Stock shelves, coolers, freezers, bunkers, and displays throughout assigned grocery department areas including, but not limited to, Grocery, General Merchandise, Dairy, Frozen, HBC (Health & Beauty Care), and other perishable departments
- Rotate merchandise using FIFO (First In, First Out) methods to maintain freshness, proper product rotation, and minimize shrink
- Face, recover, and condition aisles throughout the shift to maintain a clean, organized, and customer-ready appearance
- Assist with unloading trucks, breaking down deliveries, and safely working freight in a timely manner
- Move pallets, stocking carts, and product safely throughout the sales floor, coolers, freezers, and stockroom areas
- Organize and maintain backstock in designated stockrooms, coolers, and freezer areas
- Monitor product dates and remove damaged, expired, or unsellable merchandise from shelves and displays
- Complete go-backs and return misplaced merchandise to the correct department and shelf location
- Perform price checks for customers and team members when requested
- Answer department phone calls and assist customers with product questions, availability, and special requests
- Build, maintain, and replenish promotional displays, seasonal features, and endcaps
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, stockrooms, coolers, freezers, equipment, and sales floor areas
- Assist customers in locating products while providing friendly, courteous, and professional customer service
- Follow all company safety, sanitation, and food safety procedures and guidelines
- Communicate out-of-stocks, inventory concerns, damaged product, or safety concerns to department leadership
- Work in multiple areas of the grocery department based on daily business needs and staffing demands
- Assist with ordering and inventory responsibilities as requested by supervisors or management
- Receive, process, inspect, and sort incoming deliveries safely and accurately
- Ensure excess product and backstock are stored properly in designated storage areas
- Ensure all refrigerated and frozen products are stored promptly and according to safe food temperature guidelines
- Assist in maintaining accurate shelf tags, signs, pricing, and product labeling throughout the department
- Communicate and work effectively with team members to maintain department standards and productivity
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workplace for customers and team members at all times
- Use proper lifting, stocking, cutting, equipment handling, and hazard identification procedures
- Be willing and able to assist in other departments or positions when coverage is needed
- Assist with any additional duties, projects, assignments, or tasks as requested by management
- Support other departments and special projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Previous grocery, retail, stocking, dairy, frozen, HBC, or related experience preferred but not required
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while staying organized and on task
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable attendance, punctuality, flexibility, and honesty required
- Stable work history preferred
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to give and receive verbal instructions regarding department procedures, safety practices, and equipment use
- Ability to read and write in English, including reading instructions, merchandise labels, forms, and signage
- Basic counting and inventory skills required
- Ability to safely operate equipment including pallet jacks, balers, forklifts, and highloaders (training and certification provided)
- Ability to identify damaged or unsellable merchandise and make appropriate decisions regarding product quality and placement
- Ability to pass background checks and drug/alcohol screenings if required by company policy
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50–60 pounds regularly throughout the shift
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, kneel, reach, and remain mobile for extended periods of time
- Ability to work in varying temperatures including coolers, freezers, stockrooms, and outdoor receiving areas
- Ability to safely move, push, pull, and maneuver stocking carts, pallet jacks, pallets, and heavy product loads
- Ability to safely stock shelves, coolers, freezers, displays, and overhead storage areas using proper lifting techniques and equipment
- Ability to safely operate pallet jacks, balers, forklifts, ladders, and other stocking or maintenance equipment
- Ability to safely use box cutters, utility knives, and other tools required for stocking and merchandise handling
- Ability to handle wet, cold, hot, crushable, metal, paper, plastic, glass, and perishable products safely
- Ability to maintain productivity and work efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment
- Ability to work flexible schedules including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
Work Environment
- Fast-paced retail environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities
- Regular exposure to coolers, freezers, refrigerated cases, and varying temperatures throughout the shift
- Frequent interaction with customers, vendors, delivery drivers, and team members
- Work performed on sales floor, stockrooms, coolers, freezers, receiving areas, and outdoor loading areas as needed
- Exposure to dust, cardboard, cleaning chemicals, moisture, and noise from equipment and store operations
- Frequent use of stocking equipment including pallet jacks, balers, forklifts, ladders, and stocking carts
- Requires working independently and as part of a team while maintaining productivity and department standards
- Flexible scheduling required, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when business needs require it
Pay: From $15.00 per hour
