La Esquina is a new chef-driven neighborhood eatery & gourmet marketplace. Built around freshly prepared California-casual cuisine. La Esquina's concept is rooted in community & inspired by good food. The menu will consist of casual grab & go, ready made meal items to service the local neighborhood, nearby college students, and busy professionals.
Objectives:
Seeking an experienced Pastry Chef to help launch our pastry and baked-goods program from the ground up. Showcase your skills & talent crafting morning pastries and sweet treats that compliment the food & beverage menus. Demonstrate attention to quality, presentation, and hospitality. Contribute to a respectful, team-first kitchen culture.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and bake a wide range of baked goods, including pastries, tarts, and breads, adhering to established recipes and quality standards.
- Assist in menu development by suggesting new pastry ideas and seasonal specialties to delight customers.
- Adapt recipes for dietary needs (gluten free / vegan / sugar free).
- Package baked items carefully for retail display, ensuring freshness and presentation are maintained.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of pastry station in compliance with food safety regulations.
- Possess ability to communicate effectively with team members and guests.
- Handle food safety management practices diligently, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of professional pastry experience with a strong portfolio showcasing baked goods & pastry
- Ability to run morning production independently — mise en place, bake schedule, case styling, consistently every day
- Proficiency in food preparation techniques specific to baking & pastry arts
- Excellent knife skills for precise cutting, shaping, and decorating
- Knowledge of packaging methods suitable for retail display
- Strong understanding & demonstration of food industry safety standards, food handling procedures, best practices for hygiene, and kitchen operations (ServSafe certified)
- Passionate about quality ingredients, presentation, and hospitality
