Primary Purpose:
Perform skilled carpentry and general building maintenance work involving the construction, repair, renovation, and maintenance of district facilities. This position performs a wide variety of carpentry-related tasks including drywall, ceilings, doors, windows, flooring, cabinetry, fencing, concrete repairs, painting, and other building maintenance projects to ensure district facilities remain safe, functional, and well maintained.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid Texas Driver's License (or ability to obtain)
Minimum Experience:
- Three (3) years of commercial, institutional, or residential carpentry and building maintenance experience preferred.
Special Knowledge and Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of carpentry methods, construction techniques, and general building maintenance.
- Working knowledge of drywall finishing, ceiling systems, concrete repair, glazing, painting, and related building trades.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in building maintenance.
- Ability to estimate labor and material requirements.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple assignments.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety practices and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Construct, repair, and modify walls, ceilings, doors, windows, cabinets, shelving, countertops, and other building components.
- Install and repair drywall, ceiling systems, flooring, trim, and finish carpentry.
- Install, repair, and replace windows, glass, doors, door frames, and hardware.
- Repair concrete, masonry surfaces, fencing, gates, playground equipment, and exterior structures.
- Perform painting, staining, and finishing work associated with carpentry projects.
- Inspect work sites to determine appropriate repair methods, materials, and equipment.
- Estimate labor and material requirements for assigned projects.
- Complete assigned work orders accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in safe operating condition.
- Follow district safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Assist other maintenance crafts when operational needs require.
- Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, flexibility, and a willingness to perform other duties as assigned by the Carpentry Supervisor.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Power saws, drills, routers, nail guns, sanders, welders, oxy-acetylene torch, paint sprayers, ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, tractors, trailers, loaders, measuring devices, hand tools, and other equipment associated with carpentry and facility maintenance.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Demands:
Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials weighing over 45 pounds. Work from ladders, scaffolding, rooftops, and aerial lifts. Responsibilities of the position may require irregular work hours.
Environment:
Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Exposure to heat, cold, dust, paint fumes, construction materials, moving machinery, elevated work areas, uneven walking surfaces, and other hazards associated with building maintenance.
