First Piedmont Corporation is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented HR Generalist/Benefits Specialist to join our Human Resources team in Chatham, VA. The Human Resource Generalist / Benefits Specialist manages day-to-day HR operations across the employee lifecycle. Core duties include facilitating the onboarding process, administering benefits enrollment, managing leave guidelines, and ensuring company policies are consistently applied and compliant.

Education and Experience
- Degree in a business-related field or a minimum of 5 years experience in Human Resources preferred.
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollment in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
- Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
- Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility.
- Enrolls employees with carriers and processes life status changes.
- Administers all leave-of-absence requests: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.
- Conducts or acquires background checks and employment eligibility verifications.
- Coordinates new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
- Maintains personnel files per the Department of Labor guidelines.
- Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Maintains records for employee tenure and referral bonuses.
- Administers Workers Compensation claims.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
