Lead Toddler Teacher – 18 to 24 MonthsOverview
Little Champions Childcare Center is seeking an experienced, dependable, and nurturing Lead Toddler Teacher for our 18–24-month Little Cubs classroom.
The ideal candidate understands that toddlers need consistency, patience, structure, active supervision, and meaningful learning experiences throughout the day. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of the classroom, follows established policies and routines, communicates professionally, and can be counted on to arrive on time and ready to work.
Applicants must have at least two years of experience working in a licensed childcare center. Babysitting, nannying, and personal childcare experience may be valuable, but do not replace the required childcare-center experience.
Responsibilities
- Maintain active supervision of children at all times.
- Provide nurturing, responsive, and developmentally appropriate care.
- Follow Texas childcare licensing requirements and Little Champions policies.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate lessons and activities for children ages 18–24 months.
- Support children’s language, cognitive, social-emotional, sensory, and physical development.
- Lead daily routines, including meals, diapering, handwashing, transitions, outdoor play, and naptime.
- Use positive guidance and redirection to manage toddler behavior.
- Maintain required classroom ratios and never leave children without proper coverage.
- Complete daily documentation, incident reports, developmental observations, and parent communication accurately.
- Post classroom updates and required photographs through the center’s communication platform.
- Maintain a clean, organized, sanitized, and tour-ready classroom.
- Follow all cleaning and closing procedures assigned to the classroom.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with children, families, coworkers, and leadership.
- Work collaboratively with assistant teachers and provide appropriate classroom direction.
- Attend required staff meetings, training sessions, and professional-development courses.
- Receive coaching professionally and make necessary corrections promptly.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, employees, and center operations.
Attendance and Professional Expectations
Reliability is essential for this position. The selected candidate must:
- Maintain dependable attendance and arrive on time for every scheduled shift.
- Be clocked in, inside the center, and ready to work at the scheduled start time.
- Follow the center’s call-out and time-off request procedures.
- Maintain reliable transportation and dependable childcare arrangements.
- Limit personal cellphone and smartwatch use according to center policy.
- Maintain professional boundaries, language, behavior, and appearance.
- Wear all-black scrub tops and bottoms during the 90-day probationary and training period.
- Successfully complete 30-, 60-, and 90-day performance evaluations.
Required Qualifications
- At least two years of professional experience in a licensed childcare center.
- Previous experience working with toddlers, preferably children ages 18–24 months.
- Demonstrated experience leading or managing a childcare classroom.
- Strong understanding of active supervision, classroom ratios, toddler routines, and positive guidance.
- Ability to create and follow age-appropriate lesson plans.
- Ability to communicate professionally with families, coworkers, and leadership.
- Ability to remain patient, attentive, and actively engaged throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and carry children, sit on the floor, bend, stand, and move throughout the classroom.
- Ability to complete diapering, cleaning, sanitizing, and other physical classroom responsibilities.
- Willingness to complete all required background checks, fingerprinting, training, and employment documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Child Development Associate credential, Early Childhood Education degree, or related education.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of Texas Minimum Standards and Texas Rising Star expectations.
- Experience completing developmental observations and childcare documentation.
- Experience leading an assistant teacher or classroom team.
