Job Summary
The Senior Accountant manages daily financial operations, ensures regulatory compliance, and supports the financial health of the museum, while supporting its mission to educate, inspire, and elevate through aviation and innovation. This role oversees full-cycle accounting, grant tracking, and financial reporting, as well as manages audits, payroll, employee relations, and benefits administration. The position reports directly to the President & CEO.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Manage banking relationships, investments, loans and lines of credit.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic decision making.
- Develop and maintain internal controls and financial policies.
Financial Reporting & General Ledger
- Manage month-end close. Direct all monthly closing activities and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare financial statements. Generate accurate monthly balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow analysis.
- Maintain general ledger. Ensure accurate coding of all revenues, admissions, gift shop sales, and operational expenses.
- Track fixed assets. Depreciate museum property, equipment, and unique aviation exhibits accurately.
Non-Profit Compliance & Grant Accounting
- Track restricted funds. Monitor donor-restricted gifts, endowments, and government grants.
- Manage grant reporting. Ensure strict compliance with local, state, and federal grant guidelines.
- Lead audit preparation. Compile schedules and documentation for the annual external IRS

- Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Review vendor invoices, code expenses, and process weekly disbursements.
- Reconcile revenue streams. Audit daily ticketing software data, membership dues, and event space rentals against bank deposits.
Human Resources
- Direct human resources functions including recruitment, compensation and benefits administration.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Manage employee benefits programs.
- Oversee payroll processing and timekeeping systems.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Non-profit accounting experience is highly preferred.
Skills & Systems
- Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data modeling.
- Accounting software proficiency in QuickBooks Enterprise
- Ticketing system familiarity with platforms like Korona, Altru or Blackbaud.
- CRM system familiarity with platforms like Bloomerang.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to travel locally as needed for meetings and organizational events.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through electronic
- communications.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
