About the Position:
Primary Duties of this position include troubleshooting and correcting routine issues with audio/video hardware and software. Responding to emergency calls for assistance in the classrooms in a timely manner and providing on campus event support. Assisting customers (Faculty, Staff, Students and guests of the University) with technology questions or issues concerning A/V equipment. This position is responsible for prioritizing requests for assistance, providing documentation as needed for customers on use of A/V hardware and software, and consulting with customers to help determine technology needs as well as maintaining accurate inventory records for all campus AV equipment.
Essential Functions:
Respond to requests from the SMU community for assistance with AV equipment in classrooms, conference rooms, and campus events.
Support team projects, including installations, documentation, inventory management, and system testing.
Participate in career development activities to expand knowledge through technical and professional training.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Assist staff with evening and weekend work, including availability on either Saturday or Sunday.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma, or equivalent, is required. A bachelor's degree is preferred.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience providing A/V technology support and customer support is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.
Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
Candidate must have an advanced understanding of the components used in A/V systems (including controllers, switchers, projectors, cameras, speaker connections, etc.) and other equipment used in classroom and meeting room environments. Advanced knowledge of setup and use of videoconferencing equipment is required.
