Is responsible for the daily management and direction of nursing care of the residents and unit assigned to him/her.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides nursing care in accordance with standards established by nursing service and administrative policies.
- Directs and provides assistance, observes, and monitors the activities of NA on his/her unit and contributes to the evaluation of their performance as requested.
- Assists with the development and revision of nursing care plans under the guidance of a RN. Manages/directs the plan of care by directly administering care or by directing and supervising nursing acts delegated to NAs.
- Maintains accurate and complete records of nursing care and reports significant observations to the CN/RN designee, physician/family of pertinent changes in resident’s condition.
- Notifies CN/RN designee, physician/family of pertinent changes in resident’s condition.
- Administers medications after appropriate orientation and instruction. Maintains accurate medication records and observes residents for signs and symptoms of adverse drug reactions.
- Administers special treatments, procedures, dressing changes, irrigations and other procedures requiring special techniques based on his/her nursing education.
- Accompanies physician on rounds when necessary; reviews physician’s orders, medications and charts to insure prompt and accurate execution.
- Attends Resident Care Conferences on unit residents.
- Attends staff meetings, total plan of care and in-service programs.
- Maintains a clean, safe and organized unit.
- Provides assistance to relatives and visitors as necessary.
- Monitors consistent application of Restorative Nursing Goals and Approaches and refers any necessary changes to the CN for evaluation.
- Other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned within the scope of his/her education and under direct supervision of a RN.
- May come in contact with blood and other infectious materials. Follows Universal Precautions.
- Follows the Nursing Standards of Care.
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Must be licensed by the State of Florida as a Licensed Practical Nurse or have obtained a temporary license.
