New Purpose House is a structured transitional housing and reentry program serving women who are rebuilding their lives following incarceration, treatment, and other significant life transitions.
Our program provides a safe, structured, and supportive residential environment while helping women work toward employment, financial stability, recovery, personal accountability, and successful transition to independent living.
Position Summary
New Purpose House is seeking two dependable and compassionate Resident Support Specialists to provide alternating weekend coverage.
Each Resident Support Specialist will work 22 hours every other weekend, allowing two employees to rotate weekend coverage while maintaining predictable part-time schedules.
This is not simply a residential monitoring position. Weekend Resident Support Specialists help maintain the structure and operation of the residence and are trained to handle resident referrals, screenings, intakes, admissions, orientations, resource coordination, documentation, and resident support when the Lead Case Manager is not on site.
The ideal candidate can independently manage weekend operations, maintain strong professional boundaries, enforce program expectations, and respond appropriately when resident concerns or emergencies arise.
Essential ResponsibilitiesWeekend Resident Support
- Serve as the primary staff contact for residents during assigned weekend shifts.
- Maintain a safe, structured, respectful, and supportive residential environment.
- Respond to resident questions, concerns, and immediate needs.
- Reinforce New Purpose House policies, house rules, curfew, and community expectations.
- Monitor resident accountability and adherence to program requirements.
- Assist residents with appropriate community resources and immediate service needs.
- Encourage resident independence, accountability, and progress.
- Address resident conflicts appropriately and utilize de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Identify concerns requiring management or emergency escalation.
- Communicate significant weekend developments to the Lead Case Manager.
- Ensure outstanding matters are transitioned appropriately to the weekday team.
Referrals, Screenings, Intakes & Admissions
Weekend Resident Support Specialists will be trained and expected to:
- Receive prospective resident referrals.
- Communicate professionally with referral agencies and prospective residents.
- Log referrals into Purpose Path.
- Conduct preliminary eligibility screenings.
- Collect required intake information and documentation.
- Complete resident intake and admission procedures.
- Review program expectations, resident fees, savings requirements, house rules, and policies with incoming residents.
- Obtain required signatures, acknowledgments, releases, and consents.
- Conduct new resident orientation.
- Assist with room and bed assignments.
- Identify immediate resident needs following admission.
- Initiate appropriate resource referrals.
- Document admissions and ensure the Lead Case Manager receives the information necessary for ongoing case management.
Documentation & Communication
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation in Purpose Path.
- Document resident interactions, referrals, admissions, incidents, and significant concerns.
- Complete required weekend shift reports.
- Complete incident reports when necessary.
- Maintain resident confidentiality.
- Clearly communicate outstanding issues requiring weekday follow-up.
- Provide an accurate transition report to the Lead Case Manager following the weekend.
Crisis Response & Safety
Weekend staff must be comfortable working independently and responding appropriately when urgent situations arise.
Responsibilities include:
- Recognizing potential crisis and safety concerns.
- Utilizing appropriate de-escalation techniques.
- Following New Purpose House crisis-response procedures.
- Immediately escalating suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, threats of violence, self-harm, or other serious safety concerns.
- Contacting designated leadership or emergency resources according to established protocol.
- Accurately documenting incidents and actions taken.
Resident Support Specialists are not expected to independently provide clinical treatment or manage high-risk situations outside the scope of their position.
Professional Boundaries
Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries is a non-negotiable condition of employment with New Purpose House.
Employees must:
- Maintain professional relationships with residents at all times.
- Use approved New Purpose House communication channels.
- Refrain from inappropriate personal texting or communication with residents.
- Refrain from sharing personal photographs or inappropriate personal information with residents.
- Follow organizational policies regarding personal telephone numbers and social media.
- Avoid favoritism and relationships that could compromise professional judgment.
- Never borrow money from or lend money to residents.
- Maintain resident confidentiality.
- Immediately report potential boundary concerns to leadership.
Violation of professional-boundary requirements may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in residential services, reentry, social services, supportive housing, behavioral health, recovery services, corrections, community services, or a related setting preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to complete accurate documentation and case notes.
- Strong judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently during weekend hours.
- Ability to respectfully and consistently enforce policies.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Basic computer and technology skills.
- Reliable transportation.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to consistently work the assigned alternating weekend schedule.
Preferred
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in social work, human services, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, behavioral health, or a related field.
- Experience working with women impacted by incarceration, substance use, homelessness, trauma, or behavioral health challenges.
- Experience completing referrals, screenings, intakes, or admissions.
- Crisis intervention or de-escalation experience.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
Weekend Schedule
New Purpose House is hiring two Resident Support Specialists who will alternate weekends.
Each employee will work:
Friday: 3:00 PM–9:00 PM
Saturday: 11:00 AM–7:00 PM
Sunday: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
Total: 22 hours every other weekend
Applicants must be able to consistently commit to their assigned alternating weekend schedule.
Additional shifts may occasionally be available for employees interested in covering vacations, absences, admissions, or other program needs.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone New Purpose House can confidently depend on to manage resident services during their assigned weekend.
The successful candidate will be dependable, compassionate while maintaining appropriate boundaries, comfortable enforcing program expectations, capable of completing referrals and admissions after training, organized with documentation, calm during unexpected situations, and able to recognize when an issue requires escalation.
Our residents need both support and structure, and consistency from our staff is essential.
