Position Summary
The After-School Literacy Teacher is responsible for creating a fun, engaging, and supportive learning environment that helps elementary-aged students strengthen their reading, writing, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. The teacher will provide small-group instruction, encourage a love of reading, monitor student progress, and foster positive relationships with students and families.
Essential Responsibilities
- Plan and teach daily literacy lessons aligned with students’ grade levels and individual learning needs.
- Lead engaging activities focused on reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, writing, and critical thinking.
- Provide individualized and small-group instruction to support students who need additional academic assistance.
- Encourage positive reading habits and a lifelong love of learning.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment.
- Monitor student progress and document academic growth.
- Assist students with homework as needed.
- Communicate professionally with program staff and parents regarding student progress and behavior.
- Manage classroom behavior using positive reinforcement and age-appropriate strategies.
- Prepare instructional materials and maintain an organized classroom.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and program events.
- Follow all program and safety policies and procedures
Pay: $20.00 per hour
