Equity Staffing Group is seeking Electrical Forepersons for multiple direct-hire opportunities supporting residential solar and battery installation projects throughout the Chicago/Des Plaines market.
The Electrical Foreperson will provide hands-on leadership and technical expertise for a solar installation crew of 3–6 team members. This position is responsible for safety, quality, customer service, productivity, and the successful completion of residential and small commercial projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced solar professional who enjoys leading crews while remaining hands-on in the field.
Schedule & Work Area
This position requires open availability with no set daily start or end time. Hours are determined by project requirements each day, and weekend work may be required as needed.
- Territory generally covers a 70–90 mile radius of Des Plaines
- Employees typically report directly to the assigned jobsite
- Company vehicles may be restocked before or after jobs depending on operational needs
Key Responsibilities
- Organize, lead, and train solar installation crew members.
- Supervise crews of approximately 3–6 employees.
- Effectively manage all aspects of the construction and installation workflow.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to quality standards.
- Provide hands-on technical support throughout solar and electrical installations.
- Maintain accurate project documentation.
- Monitor crew productivity and project progress.
- Identify and resolve field and employee-related issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Maintain a positive and productive working environment within the crew and across branch teams.
- Maintain strong customer relationships throughout the installation process.
- Ensure work complies with NEC, OSHA, local codes, and applicable safety standards.
- Perform the duties of an Installer and Lead Installer as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of construction experience.
- At least 1 year of solar installation experience.
- Experience performing electrical work involving wiring up to 600 VDC and 480 VAC.
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable codes and standards.
- Understanding of relevant OSHA safety standards.
- Ability to perform all responsibilities associated with Installer and Lead Installer positions.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- CPR and First Aid certifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- State electrical certification or license.
- Previous experience supervising or leading solar installation crews.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
Physical Requirements
Candidates must be able to:
- Frequently lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Climb ladders and safely work at heights.
- Work on rooftops with varying pitches, angles, and surfaces.
- Frequently bend, twist, squat, climb, kneel, crawl, turn, stand, and maintain balance.
- Work outdoors in conditions including extreme heat, cold, humidity, wet environments, and excessive noise.
- Perform detailed work requiring fine motor skills, grasping, pinching, and fine manipulation.
- Safely use ladders, fall-protection harnesses, PPE, and other required equipment.
- Maintain balance while working on roofs and other elevated surfaces.
