CAT CARETAKER JOB DESCRIPTION
Time Commitment and Location of Work:
This is a part-time position with a focus on weekend hours and some holiday work is required. We care for our cats seven days a week and looking for someone committed to assisting in their care with a positive attitude and eagerness to work hard.
Position Summary
The cat caretaker reports to the Cat Care Coordinator and is expected to work within a team setting to oversee the health, well-being and general care of all cats at Acadiana Animal Aid. All caretakers must work and engage with volunteers while overseeing the safety of the cats and following protocols.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Feed cats, monitor eating habits, and report appetite or weight fluctuations
- Clean kennels, crates, rooms, litter boxes and dishes in accordance with protocols
- Clean up various bodily functions (vomit, urine, feces, blood)
- Bathe and brush the cats
- Administer medications
- Help with vetting of cats
- Enhance the physical and emotional wellbeing of all cats
- Provide cats with comfortable bedding and appropriate enrichment stimulation
- Treat the animals with kindness and respect
- Communicate clearly to staff, volunteers and potential adopters
- Work closely with and supervise volunteers
- Work with visitors, potential adopters, and volunteers
- Help maintain upkeep of all areas where cats are located
Qualifications:
- Ability to multitask, work well with co-workers, and communicate effectively
- Work with an upbeat, positive and energetic attitude
- Strong desire to work with cats
- Must be able to work with all cats, including those with health and behavior concerns, and all sizes and energy levels
- Must be willing to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
- Must be able to professionally advocate Acadiana Animal Aids’ position on issues
- Must be able to routinely life 50 pounds
- Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity including but not limited to; standing, lifting, carrying, stooping, squatting cleaning and bending for prolonged periods
- Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Long exposure on a daily basis to cats of all temperaments, sizes, and medical conditions
- Honest, willing to work, and in good physical condition
