Position Overview
We are seeking an energetic, technically skilled, and highly reliable Field Supervisor to assist on-site field crews and ensure the successful execution of deck construction projects. This role is a vital link between back-office production and field installation, focused on driving daily efficiency, maintaining the highest quality standards, and providing excellent on-site customer communication. The Field Supervisor operates as a support role to the Field Service Manager, assisting to ensure that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to SpaceStars’ specifications.
The Right Candidate Will Have
Technical Skills
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in residential construction, specifically framing new homes, additions and decks.
- Ability to perform the duties of the Carpenter role if required.
- Knowledge of framing components, fasteners, brackets, hangers, and other hardware used in deck construction.
- Ability to interpret and apply plans for footings, span charts, and framing to ensure compliance with code and structural requirements.
- A solid understanding of blueprint reading and editing.
Supervisory Skills & Requirements
- 2+ years experience in a supervisory role of multi-site/multi-stage projects.
- Able to provide solutions for complex construction plans and escalate any issues that arise from design or implementation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage on-site logistics, material handling, and quality control for multiple projects.
- Strong organizational skills to ensure timely submission of project status reports and site documentation.
- Proficiency with computer skills, specifically email and Google Docs, for communication and documentation.
- Dedication to creating amazing customer experiences through clear, on-site communications.
- Must possess a clean driving record and the ability to drive safely throughout Southeast Michigan.
- Spanish speaking is a plus but not required.

Work Schedule:
- Core Responsibilities: Site visits, job supervision, and field operations typically occur Monday through Saturday during core business hours.
- Additional Hours: Potential night and weekend responsibilities required based on the needs of the business.
- Required Availability: Saturday, Sunday, and Holiday hours may be required for on-call support, material staging, or critical project needs.
Key Responsibilities
The Field Supervisor will share and execute the on-site duties of the Field Operations Department, focusing on project execution and quality control.
1. Field Crew Supervision & Quality
- Supervise and assist on-site field crews and installers, communicating daily direction to maintain workflow and quality standards.
- Conduct job reviews with installers at the start of work to review the scope of work, construction plans, and materials, and communicate completion time requirements and performance targets.
- Conduct regular site visits throughout the project to ensure compliance with plans, safety standards, and high workmanship quality.
- Ensure the use of proper techniques and adherence to company methods and quality standards on every job.
- Understand quality assurance standards and maintain photographic documentation of workmanship quality and job progress.
2. Project Execution & Logistics
- Manage material handling on-site, verifying material accuracy and placement, and coordinating the delivery and staging of materials and specialty items.
- Oversee jobsite setup, including dumpster placement, site conditions, and site prep/cleanup.
- Ensure worksite logistics are optimized for crew efficiency and safety.
- Verify utility marking and digging and ensure jobsite safety compliance at all times.
- Conduct final walkthroughs with installers and customers, document punch list items, and ensure prompt completion for timely closeout.
3. Coordination & Communication
- Act as the main on-site point of contact for customers, communicating with customers on site regarding progress, requested/required schedule changes, and any potential issues.
- Report project status and progress daily to the Field Operations Manager and the broader production team through clear communication channels (e.g., email, Google Docs).
- Assist the Field Operations Manager with permit coordination, including meeting inspectors on-site for various inspections (post-hole, framing, final) to streamline approvals.
4. Company Vehicle & Compliance
- Operate and maintain a company vehicle safely and professionally while driving throughout Southeast Michigan.
- Ensure compliance with all safety policies and company guidelines on the job site.
