Senior Academic Advisor - Academic Success Center (HEa)
POSITION DETAILS
Reporting to the Academic Advising Manager, in the office of Academic Success Center (ASC) under the division of the Office of Academic Affairs, the Academic Advisor will serve as an advisor to a caseload of Bronx Community College (BCC) certificate and degree seeking students not enrolled in a special program.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide intensive, high-touch in-person and virtual advising services on academic issues with respect to curricular, general education and program requirements, selection of major and academic standards including those for retention and probation
Evaluate students' records to track progress toward degree completion leveraging technology including EAB Navigate, CUNYfirst and communication tools to monitor students' success and semester-to-semester persistence; intervening to reduce dismissals and withdrawals and improving metrics for success and retention
Serve as a resource to students regarding academic policies and standards, grading policies and various appeal processes
Collaborate with other members of Academic Success Center team as well as with other units and academic departments to create and promote opportunities for student engagement in extracurricular activities, departmental networking events and experiential learning
Facilitate workshops and information sessions for students on use of BCC-based and CUNY-wide systems utilized in the advising and registration processes
Identify and refer students in need of additional support and/or services
Utilize ASC's student assessment tool for at-risk and probation students track and monitor their tutoring sessions and grades.
Participate in advising-based and college-wide committees
Participate in the development of advisor training materials
Provides expert and/or specialized academic counseling a diverse student population. Offers comprehensive advisement to full-time and part-time students
Works with other academic affairs staff as well as enrollment and student affairs to assist students with major requirements and select appropriate courses
Monitors students' performances and takes appropriate action if necessary; resolves students' problems regarding curricular requirements
Develops academic plans and performs graduation audits
Provides information to students regarding student support services, college policies and program procedures and guidelines
Facilitates workshops; assists with other department activities such as course scheduling
Occasional evening or weekends may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree
Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time-management skills, as well as a strong work ethic and commitment for success.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary commensurate with education and experience: $68,364 - $76,937
