Triage Medical Assistant – Neurology

Texas Institute for Neurological Disorders (TIND) is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Triage Medical Assistant to join our fast-paced Clinical Patient Support Center (PCSC). This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a high-volume environment, enjoys problem-solving, and is passionate about providing exceptional patient care while supporting multiple providers and clinic locations.
Position Summary
As a Triage Medical Assistant, you will be the first point of contact for patients calling our centralized clinical call queue. You will assess patient needs, prioritize requests appropriately, coordinate care with providers, and ensure timely follow-up while managing multiple responsibilities throughout the day.
Essential Responsibilities
- Answer and manage a high-volume inbound clinical call queue for multiple neurology providers and locations.
- Triage patient concerns and route urgent clinical issues according to established protocols.
- Document all patient interactions accurately and completely within the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Process prescription refill requests in accordance with provider protocols.
- Complete medication prior authorizations and coordinate with pharmacies and insurance companies.
- Manage provider task queues, patient messages, and clinical encounters in a timely manner.
- Review and process incoming faxes and clinical documentation.
- Coordinate diagnostic testing, referrals, and follow-up care as directed.
- Communicate effectively with providers, medical assistants, scheduling staff, pharmacies, and outside healthcare facilities.
- Place outbound calls to patients regarding test results, medication updates, appointment coordination, and provider recommendations.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide exceptional customer service while demonstrating empathy, professionalism, and strong clinical judgment.
- Assist with additional clinical and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Current Medical Assistant certification preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of Medical Assistant experience required.
- Previous triage or neurology experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology required.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR); eClinicalWorks experience is a plus.
- Strong computer, typing, and documentation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong critical thinking, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
