Job Summary
The Battery Energy Storage (BESS) Construction Manager will lead the execution of standalone energy storage and solar + storage projects from preconstruction through commissioning. This role is responsible for overseeing field operations, managing subcontractors and schedules, coordinating with utilities and AHJs, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
The ideal candidate has strong experience managing electrical and civil construction projects, understands complex distributed energy systems, and thrives in fast-paced environments where technical expertise and leadership are equally valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day field operations for BESS and renewable energy construction projects, ensuring safe and efficient execution across all project phases.
- Manage project schedules, subcontractors, vendors, equipment logistics, and workforce coordination.
- Prepare and respond to bids, proposals, and RFPs, including detailed project takeoffs, estimating, and scope reviews.
- Coordinate with utilities, AHJs, inspectors, and permitting agencies including Con Edison, DOB, and FDNY.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents to identify risks, optimize schedules, and support successful project delivery.
- Monitor construction progress and provide regular reporting on milestones, budget impacts, delays, and field conditions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable NEC, NFPA, IEEE, UL, NYC Building Code, and utility interconnection standards.
- Support commissioning activities, punch list completion, and project closeout documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering, estimating, and development teams during project planning and execution.
- Maintain high standards for quality control, safety compliance, and site productivity.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 5+ years of construction management experience in electrical infrastructure, renewable energy, civil construction, or utility projects.
- Experience with Con Edison interconnections, NYC DOB filings, FDNY approvals, and other AHJ coordination.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, medium-voltage equipment, and distributed energy infrastructure.
- Proven ability to manage full project lifecycle from preconstruction through commissioning.
- Existing relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and field crews within the NYC construction market.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in fast-paced environments.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Solar PV, microgrids, substations, or utility-scale renewable energy projects.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems, DERMS platforms, and distributed generation technologies.
- Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, UL, ASCE, NYISO, and NYC regulatory standards.
- Experience working on large-scale electrical or civil infrastructure projects in NYC.
- Proficiency with Procore, Microsoft Project, Asana, or related project management software.
- OSHA certification, NABCEP certification, or commercial licensing preferred.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
