Fulton-Montgomery Community College (FMCC) is seeking an Institutional Research Analyst to support the College's data, planning, and compliance reporting needs. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology (CIO), the Analyst performs statistical and analytic institutional research, provides information and analysis for decision-making and program planning, and provides technical support to faculty, staff, and administrators.
Salary: $60,864.00 – $67,676.00
Responsibilities included but not limited to:
- Design, maintain, query, and manipulate specialized databases and information systems — including SQL Server queries against the College's student information system — to support research and reporting.
- Organize and present research-based information, analysis, and interpretation clearly and effectively in narrative, tabular, graphical, and oral formats.
- Maintain the research data system and an archive of information and reports suitable for responding to surveys, questionnaires, and federal, state, and SUNY data collection or accountability requirements (e.g., IPEDS, SUNY IR submissions, NYSED reporting).
- Assist faculty and administration in the development, administration, and analysis of academic placement and outcomes, student satisfaction, and job and transfer success assessment instruments.
- Provide technical and analytical support to offices, divisions, committees, faculty, staff, and administration on research-related activities.
- Evaluate and respond to data requests originating inside and outside the institution; work with requesters to clarify their needs and optimize the utility of research results for them and for the College.
- Partner closely with Information Technology staff on data infrastructure, system access, and reporting tools.
- Perform other comparable duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor's degree in an analytic field, such as Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Data Science, or a related field, with demonstrated ability to compile, manipulate, and analyze large-scale data sets. Demonstrated experience writing and troubleshooting SQL queries against relational databases (e.g., SQL Server) to extract, join, and aggregate institutional data. Excellent proficiency in MS Office products, including advanced Excel techniques (pivot tables, lookup formulas, charts, and dashboard-style reporting). Professional presence, strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Preferred: Master's degree in a relevant field. Two (2) to three (3) years of experience working with data reporting and statistical analysis. Experience in a higher education institution, preferably in institutional research. Experience with a student information system (e.g., Ellucian PowerCampus) and reporting software. Experience with statistical software (e.g., SAS, SPSS, R). Familiarity with SUNY reporting requirements and data submissions (e.g., SUNY Institutional Research, IPEDS, NYSED).
