Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist during a variety of dental procedures, including restorative, prosthodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, and pediatric dentistry.
- Perform chairside assisting with precision, including handling dental instruments, materials, and equipment efficiently.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray), ensuring adherence to infection prevention management and aseptic techniques.
- Process and sterilize dental instruments according to infection control protocols and dental sterilization procedures.
- Manage patient records accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft while maintaining strict clinical confidentiality policies.
- Obtain vital signs and medical history information to ensure patient safety and compliance with healthcare standards.
- Operate advanced dental equipment such as 3D scanners and medical imaging devices to support comprehensive diagnostics.
- Support patient management by providing education on oral health, treatment plans, and post-procedure care while ensuring a welcoming environment for pediatric dentistry patients.
- Collaborate seamlessly with the team using four-handed dentistry techniques to optimize workflow and patient comfort.
- Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment following infection prevention protocols and dental equipment maintenance schedules.
Requirements
- Valid Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification or license required; experience in general dentistry preferred.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft for accurate documentation and scheduling.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and clinical procedures relevant to pediatric dentistry and oral surgery.
- Experience with dental x-ray techniques, including digital imaging and medical imaging technologies like 3D scanners.
- Familiarity with dental sterilization procedures, infection control standards, and aseptic techniques to ensure patient safety.
- Ability to perform vital signs assessment and assist with medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration within the clinical team and providing outstanding patient care.
- Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control practices applicable in a busy dental clinic setting.
- Prior experience working with pediatric patients is a plus; certification in pediatric dentistry is advantageous.
