Position Summary
We are looking for a dependable, experienced, and compassionate Part-Time Stable Hand to join our barn team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on horse care, takes pride in maintaining a clean and organized facility, and understands that the health and happiness of our horses directly impacts the success of our therapy programs.
Working closely with the Barn Manager, you will help ensure the daily care of our therapy horses, assist with hippotherapy sessions as a lead and/or sidewalker when needed, support equine training and conditioning, maintain our barn and grounds.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead therapy horses in sessions
- Ensure timely day-to-day operations in the barn, including facilitating sessions ensuring horses are ready for all sessions.
- Maintain a clean and tidy barn and facility.
- Ensure grooming and exercise of all horses under the direction of the barn manager.
- Reporting of and assisting any horse related or facility maintenance concerns to Barn Manager.
- Responding timely to any and all horse relevant problems or welfare issues, in the moment during sessions, including answering questions on horse behavior and handling and reporting to Barn Manager.
- Additional tasks as requested by Barn Manager/Clinical Director/Executive Director
Qualifications (Required)
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on horse experience in a professional equine environment.
- Experience working with horses in training, including handling young, green, or actively trained horses while maintaining safe and consistent practices.
- Demonstrate ability to safely handle horses of varying temperaments and experience levels.
- Strong knowledge of horse behavior, grooming, daily care, feeding, and stable management.
- Ability to recognize signs of illness, injury, or changes in horse behavior and report concerns promptly.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with staff and volunteers.
- Dependable, organized, and self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to push, pull, bend, kneel, squat, and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to walk a minimum of an hour continuously on uneven grounds.
- Ability to safely handle horses weighing over 1,000 pounds and a variety of breeds.
- Ability to work in dusty, muddy, hot, cold, and wet conditions.
