The supervisor will co-lead the Instructional Coach Network, an evolving district system for coaching towards our student outcome goals across PK-8 schools, and ensure effective professional learning, coach development, and progress monitoring. The supervisor will collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to design and co-lead the professional learning for all PK-8 site-based Instructional Coaches to promote the priority initiatives identified to be aligned with our district goals. Additionally, the supervisor will manage a team of Teachers on Special Assignment (TSAs) responsible for developing and facilitating SFUSD’s Teacher Leader Fellowship (Master Teacher Program). The supervisor will have other responsibilities to further the work of professional learning and development across teams, including collaborating with other district partners and leadership development efforts to implement a district-wide coaching model.
Essential Duties

As the Supervisor, Professional Learning and Leadership, you will:

Lead key components of the district’s professional learning, instructional coaching, and teacher leadership systems in alignment with SFUSD’s Vision, Values, Goals, and Guardrails.

Articulate and advance a clear vision for professional learning and instructional coaching as a strategy for strengthening teaching practice and improving student outcomes.

Design, implement, and continuously improve systems and structures that support the development of Instructional Coaches and Teacher Leader Fellows, grounded in research and best practices.

Supervise, support, and evaluate assigned Teachers on Special Assignment and other staff, as applicable, including providing feedback, coaching, and professional growth support.

Coordinate and lead professional learning communities, coaching cycles, and cycles of inquiry to strengthen instructional practice, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Directly coach & support Instructional Coaches.

Collaborate with Human Resources and site leaders on the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and support of Instructional coaches.

Partner with district and school leaders to ensure the conditions, systems, and expectations are in place for high-quality instructional coaching and teacher leadership.

Oversee the collection, analysis, and use of data to monitor program implementation, coach development, and impact on teacher practice and student outcomes.

Regularly assess program effectiveness in collaboration with Research, Policy, and Assessment, and use findings to inform strategic improvements.

Communicate program goals, implementation progress, outcomes, and next steps to diverse stakeholders, including district leaders, school leaders, coaches, and teachers.

Oversee systems, communication, and implementation processes related to continuing education for salary credit and administrator micro-grants.

Support departmental planning, cross-functional collaboration, and leadership development efforts to implement and sustain a districtwide coaching model.

Oversee grant- and/or budget-related responsibilities associated with assigned program areas, if applicable.
The strongest candidates will have:
-
Five (5) years of administrative experience as a Central Office or Site Leader
-
At least five (5) years of leadership experience in designing and implementing professional development and/or coaching programs
-
Knowledge of and experience leading educational equity, anti-bias practices, and culturally responsive instruction.
-
A deep knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment, and ability to facilitate others in knowledge building
-
Demonstrated experience in managing and leading effective teams and individuals
-
Demonstrated experience in managing organizational change and initiating key innovations
-
Demonstrated experience advancing equitable access, opportunity, and outcomes for historically underserved student groups, including African American, Latino/a/x, Pacific Islander, multilingual learners, and students with IEPs.

Ability to work effectively in emotionally charged and difficult situations that may involve confidential or sensitive matters
-
Strong skills in designing and facilitating meaningful adult learning experiences

Knowledge of San Francisco’s public schools/urban public schools and a passionate belief in SFUSD’s commitment to instructional leadership as a lever toward delivering on the SFUSD Graduate Profile

Strong analytics and systems thinking necessary to interpret data to inform goals and strategy, as well as build infrastructure where none exists

Ability to work effectively across multiple functions and roles within a complex organization

Outstanding organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail

Excellent data analysis skills and experience synthesizing data to drive action steps
Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a valid California Administrative Services Credential or eligibility for a California Administrative Services Credential

One (1) year of experience as a public school, district, or county office administrator, or equivalent experience
