Overview
ReGround Respite is seeking compassionate, energetic, and dependable individuals to join our team as Youth Mentors. Youth Mentors provide behavioral health-informed respite services to children and adolescents ages 3–17, helping youth build confidence, develop life skills, and engage in positive experiences within their communities.
As a Youth Mentor, you will serve as a trusted role model and supportive adult, providing supervision, guidance, and encouragement while participating in recreational, educational, and community-based activities. This position is ideal for individuals pursuing careers in behavioral health, psychology, social work, education, counseling, child development, or related fields.
This is a paid, flexible position that offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and families while gaining valuable experience in youth development and behavioral health services.
Responsibilities
- Build positive, supportive relationships with youth through consistent mentorship and engagement.
- Provide supervision and support during community-based, recreational, educational, and skill-building activities.
- Model appropriate social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
- Assist youth in developing communication, problem-solving, emotional regulation, and coping skills.
- Facilitate age-appropriate activities that promote confidence, independence, and social development.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment for all participants.
- Support youth in managing behavioral challenges using positive behavior support strategies.
- Transport youth to approved community activities when applicable.
- Communicate effectively with families regarding participant needs, progress, and concerns.
- Attend Family Team Meetings (FTMs), treatment team meetings, and other service planning meetings as requested.
- Collaborate with care coordinators, insurance representatives, schools, behavioral health providers, and other service providers to ensure coordinated and effective support for youth and families.
- Advocate for youth needs and assist families in connecting with community resources and supports when appropriate.
- Complete required documentation accurately and within established timelines.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all program policies, Medicaid requirements, and professional standards.
- Participate in required trainings, supervision, and professional development activities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance required.
- Ability to pass criminal background checks and other required screenings.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries while developing positive mentoring relationships.
- Comfortable participating in community outings and recreational activities with youth.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with children, adolescents, or individuals with behavioral health needs.
- Background in education, childcare, youth development, social work, psychology, counseling, behavioral health, recreation, or related fields.
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, emotional or behavioral challenges, or special needs.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Current college students pursuing helping professions are encouraged to apply.
