Job Summary
We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Shop Foreman/Lead Technician to oversee daily operations within our service and repair shop. This pivotal role combines technical expertise with leadership skills to manage a team of technicians, ensure quality workmanship, and maintain efficient workflow. Duties
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of technicians engaged in heavy equipment, vehicle, and machinery repairs
- Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using schematics and diagnostic tools
- Oversee maintenance schedules for equipment including excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractors, and trucks to maximize uptime
- Perform or direct repairs on transmissions, suspensions, brakes, air brakes, shocks & struts, HVAC systems, and other mechanical components
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards and industry regulations while maintaining high-quality workmanship
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for automotive electrical systems, hydraulics, power tools, welding projects, and equipment assembly
- Manage inventory of parts and tools necessary for repairs; order supplies as needed to prevent delays
- Provide mentorship and training to technicians on new technologies, repair techniques, safety procedures, and best practices
- Maintain detailed records of service work performed, including diagnostics, repairs, parts used, and time logs
- Communicate effectively with customers regarding repair status and technical issues to ensure satisfaction
Skills
- Extensive dealership experience with heavy equipment operation and vehicle maintenance preferred
- Proficiency in fabrication techniques including welding and metalworking
- Strong knowledge of excavator operation, crane mechanics, forklift handling, and farm machinery repair
- Ability to read schematics for electrical systems, hydraulics, transmissions, and mechanical systems repair
- Hands-on experience with automotive diagnostics for diesel engines and complex vehicle systems
- Mechanical knowledge of power tools, hand tools, air brake systems, alignment procedures, suspension components, shocks & struts
- Familiarity with Caterpillar or similar heavy machinery brands; experience with industrial equipment is a plus
- Skilled in soldering and electrical system repair; capable of troubleshooting automotive electrical issues
- Knowledge of HVAC systems related to vehicle or equipment cooling/heating needs
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely; experience with tire service is advantageous
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients and team members
