Mental Performance Coach – Middle School Basketball
Location: Alvord Unified School District (Riverside, CA)

Time Commitment: ~1x/week (practices, games)
About the Role
Intellectual Athlete (IA) is an evidence-based mental fitness program for adolescent athletes. Following a successful randomized controlled trial, IA is entering its second year in Alvord USD, expanding across all middle school sports seasons.
We are currently hiring Mental Fitness Coaches for the upcoming soccer season.
This is not a motivational speaking role. This is applied mental skills training work delivered in a meaningful sports league with talented athletes. You will work directly with middle school soccer teams, teaching core mental performance (mistake resets, pre performance routines. supporting athletes and coaches in applying those skills during practices and games.
- Teach and reinforce breath regulation, self-talk, visualization, attention control, and cognitive reappraisal
- Attend ~1 team touchpoint per week (practice and/or games)
- Support athletes in real time during mistakes, pressure moments, and competition
Applicants must have formal training and applied experience in the following areas:
- Breathwork / physiological regulation
- Attention control (mindfulness, focus training)
- Self-talk / cognitive restructuring
- Visualization / mental imagery for performance
- Cognitive reappraisal / perspective shifting
