Compassionate Care Animal Cremation

Schedule: mornings and/or midshift Must have availability weekends to be on call certain weekends out of the month.
About the Position
Compassionate Care Animal Cremation is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and hardworking Animal Crematory Worker to join our team. This position plays an important role in caring for pets and farm animals during one of the most difficult times for their families.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working around deceased animals, and understands the importance of treating every animal with dignity, respect, and compassion.
This is a hands-on position that combines animal care, crematory operations, transportation, facility responsibilities, and direct client interaction.
Responsibilities
Crematory Operations
- Receive and carefully document animals entering the facility for cremation.
- Prepare and operate cremation equipment according to company procedures and safety standards.
- Perform cremations as directed.
- Properly identify, track, and maintain the identity of each animal throughout the cremation process.
- Process cremated remains and prepare them for return to the pet's family.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for each cremation.
- Clean and maintain crematory equipment, work areas, vehicles, and facility spaces.
- Follow all safety, sanitation, abd machinery procedures.
Handling Deceased Animals
- Safely handle deceased animals of various sizes, including household pets and farm animals.
- Handle animals that have died.
- Safely move and lift animals using appropriate equipment and team-lifting techniques when necessary.
- Understand that this position involves regular exposure to deceased animals, bodily fluids, odors, and other conditions associated with animal aftercare.
Client-Facing Responsibilities
- Interact directly with pet owners during animal drop-offs and pickups.
- Receive pets from grieving families with compassion, professionalism, and respect.
- Assist clients with the delivery and pickup process and answer basic questions regarding the aftercare process.
- Maintain a calm, respectful, and compassionate demeanor when working with families experiencing the loss of a pet.
- Handle each animal as though it were your own and ensure families feel their pet is being treated with dignity.
- Assist with memorial items, paperwork, identification, and the return of cremated remains as needed.
Animal Transportation
- Transport deceased pets safely and respectfully between homes, veterinary clinics, and the crematory.
- Perform scheduled and occasional emergency pickups.
- Deliver pets and cremated remains to clients when required.
- Assist with in-home pickup and delivery services.
- Properly secure animals and equipment inside company vehicles.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of transportation vehicles after each use.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Comfortable driving company vehicles for animal pickups and deliveries.
- Ability to safely lift and move deceased animals, with assistance for larger animals when necessary.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures for identification, tracking, sanitation, and cremation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Professional and compassionate communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of grieving families.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency calls.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in animal care, animal cremation, funeral services, mortuary services, farming, kennel operations, or a related field.
- Experience handling large animals or livestock is a plus.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Lift and move deceased animals of varying sizes.
- Safely operate and work around crematory equipment.
- Work in varying temperatures and environments.
