Project Engineer / Project Controls Engineer - Heavy Civil & Utilities
Nashville, TN and Surrounding Areas
Competitive Pay Based on Experience
Beech Construction Services is seeking a highly organized Project Engineer / Project Controls Engineer to support a large, active heavy civil and utility infrastructure project in the Nashville area.
This is not an entry-level paperwork role. We need someone who can help track the details that protect the project: daily logs, RFIs, change orders, delay documentation, photo records, subcontractor coordination, drawing revisions, quantities, field impacts, and cost recovery. The right person will be comfortable working between the field and office and will understand that accurate documentation is just as important as production.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and organize daily logs, field reports, manpower, equipment, production, and delay records.
- Track RFIs, submittals, drawing revisions, bulletins, change orders, and project correspondence.
- Build and maintain documentation packages for change events, delays, utility conflicts, added scope, and field impacts.
- Review daily reports, photos, tickets, emails, meeting notes, and field records to identify cost/schedule impacts.
- Assist project managers and superintendents with pricing support, backup documentation, and owner/GC correspondence.
- Track subcontractor/vendor coordination, rental equipment, material deliveries, T&M tickets, and field directives.
- Help maintain organized project files so key information can be found quickly when disputes, claims, or schedule questions arise.
- Coordinate with field leadership to make sure work activities, constraints, and impacts are documented accurately.
- Support schedule updates, look-aheads, production tracking, and quantity verification.
- Help prepare professional written summaries, meeting notes, and project status updates.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in heavy civil, utilities, electrical duct bank, excavation, concrete, infrastructure, or commercial construction.
- Strong understanding of construction documentation, RFIs, submittals, drawings, change orders, and field reporting.
- Ability to read drawings, specifications, profiles, details, and field sketches.
- Comfortable working with superintendents, foremen, project managers, subcontractors, inspectors, and general contractors.
- Strong writing skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PDF tools, and project documentation systems.
- Experience with Procore, Autodesk Build, Bluebeam, or similar platforms is preferred.
- Must be able to work on site and respond quickly to changing field conditions.
- Must be organized, assertive, and able to keep records clean under pressure.
Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate has enough field awareness to understand what is happening on site and enough documentation discipline to turn that information into a clean project record. We are looking for someone who can spot gaps, ask good questions, follow up without being chased, and help protect the company from missed scope, undocumented delays, and unclear direction.
