After-School Teacher & Math Instructor (Part-Time)

The Advent School is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and engaging After-School Teacher & Math Instructor to join our dynamic After-School Enrichment Program during the 2026–2027 academic year.
This position is ideal for an educator who is passionate about mathematics, enjoys working with elementary-aged children, and is committed to creating a positive, supportive learning environment where students can grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
The successful candidate will lead our Math Olympiad class, providing students with opportunities to develop advanced problem-solving skills, mathematical creativity, strategic thinking, and perseverance through engaging mathematical challenges and competitions. The instructor will also support students during after-school hours through enrichment activities, mentorship, and community-building experiences.
Position Details
- Position Type: Part-Time
- Compensation: $25–$30 per hour
- Location: The Advent School, Boston, MA
- Duration: September 2026 through June 2027
Preferred Availability:
- Monday–Thursday: 3:00 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.
- Friday: 12:00 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.
While candidates with broader availability are preferred, we welcome applications from educators who can commit to teaching one or more days per week.
ResponsibilitiesMath Olympiad Instruction
- Lead the Advent School's Math Olympiad program for elementary-aged students.
- Prepare students for participation in the Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS) and other mathematical enrichment opportunities.
- Teach students a variety of problem-solving strategies and approaches to tackling non-routine mathematical challenges.
- Foster mathematical flexibility, creativity, intuition, and logical reasoning.
- Help students develop confidence, resilience, and persistence when solving complex problems.
- Encourage a love of mathematics through engaging puzzles, games, investigations, and collaborative problem-solving activities.

Math Enrichment and Instruction
- Design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate math lessons and enrichment activities.
- Differentiate instruction to support a range of learning styles, abilities, and developmental levels.
- Introduce students to challenging mathematical concepts through hands-on learning and inquiry-based exploration.
- Foster a growth mindset and encourage students to embrace challenges as opportunities for learning.
Student Supervision and Support
- Supervise students during after-school hours, ensuring their safety, well-being, and active engagement.
- Create a warm, welcoming environment where students feel supported and valued.
- Build positive relationships with students and serve as a mentor and role model.
- Support students' social-emotional growth and encourage respectful interactions with peers.
Classroom Management
- Establish clear expectations and maintain a positive learning environment.
- Utilize proactive and developmentally appropriate behavior management strategies.
- Foster collaboration, teamwork, and respectful communication among students.
- Support conflict resolution and problem-solving in a constructive manner.
Program Planning and Enrichment
- Coordinate activities that promote creativity, curiosity, collaboration, and intellectual risk-taking.
- Prepare lesson materials and maintain organized learning spaces.
- Track student participation and progress within the Math Olympiad program.
- Support special events, competitions, and enrichment opportunities as needed.
Family Communication and Safety
- Communicate professionally with families and program staff regarding student progress and participation.
- Follow all school policies and procedures related to student supervision and safety.
- Maintain awareness of basic first aid practices and respond appropriately to student needs.
- Ensure all learning environments remain safe, organized, and welcoming.
Qualifications
- Commitment to working throughout the 2026–2027 academic year.
- Experience teaching mathematics to elementary-aged students.
- Strong understanding of elementary mathematics concepts and problem-solving strategies.
- Experience with Math Olympiad, MOEMS, math competitions, math clubs, gifted education, or advanced mathematics enrichment programs is highly desirable.
- Experience working with children in educational, childcare, camp, tutoring, or enrichment settings.
- Demonstrated ability to foster critical thinking, perseverance, and intellectual curiosity.
- Strong classroom management and behavior support skills.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Passion for mathematics education and inspiring young learners to become confident problem-solvers.
