Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, refrigerated trailers, and other specialized trucks on over-the-road (OTR) routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Plan routes using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery schedules and fuel efficiency while maintaining punctuality.
- Load, secure, transport, and unload freight including hazardous materials, dangerous goods, or specialty cargo such as automobile transportation or heavy equipment like forklifts or dump trucks.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to identify maintenance needs or safety concerns before hitting the road.
- Handle logistics cargo with precision during loading and unloading processes, ensuring proper manual handling techniques are followed for safety.
- Maintain accurate delivery documentation, logs, and compliance records related to hazardous materials regulations and truck driving operations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams to coordinate delivery schedules, report issues promptly, and adapt to route changes as needed.
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a valid CDL A license.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbed trucks, tankers, roll-off trucks, dump trucks, or similar heavy-duty vehicles.
- Hands-on experience with route driving using GPS navigation tools across long-distance OTR routes.
- Knowledge of truck loading/unloading procedures including freight handling for logistics cargo or hazardous materials.
- Understanding of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, hazardous materials regulations (Hazmat), and dangerous goods transportation standards.
- Delivery driver experience involving manual transmission vehicles and manual handling techniques.
- Ability to operate additional equipment such as forklifts or cranes when necessary for cargo movement.
