RESPONSIBILITIES
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares and performs ultrasound examinations on patients. Collaborates with physicians on examinations.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Essential Functions: Seeing, hearing, speaking, finger dexterity.
- Constant: sitting, gripping.
- Frequent: standing, walking, stooping/bending, twisting, reaching at shoulder level and above head, pushing/pulling between 36-50 pounds.
- Occasional: Kneeling, climbing stairs, squatting, lifting waist to shoulder between 11-20 pounds, carrying between 11 to 20 pounds.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
- Must be able to adjust schedule for “on-call” coverage involving, but not limited to, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
- May be subjected to stressful situations when dealing with multiple and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
- Graduate of a CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) approved school of Ultrasound Technology or other approved program as determined by the department; or registered Radiologic Technologist with two (2) years supervised work/training in diagnostic ultrasound.
- Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Abdomen and OB/GYN sonography. If only registered in one (1) certification upon hire, must obtain the other certification within twenty-four (24) months of entrance into the position.
- Registered by ARDMS as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) preferred.
- Current BLS certification.
B. EXPERIENCE:
- Prior recent experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer or Echo Ultrasound Technologist in acute health care facility preferred.
- Ability to use critical thinking skills to solve problems and make decisions.
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests and work collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team.
