Why does the job exist?
The Senior Registered Nurse will:
Support the operation of the Mortality Review (MR) process by conducting timely, thorough, and comprehensive reviews of the deaths of individuals receiving services funded by the Healthcare Authority (HCA) Developmental Disabilities Supports Division (DDSD);
Promote system improvements aimed at enhancing the quality of care, reducing morbidity and mortality, and ensuring the delivery of competent, person-centered, and compassionate services and supports for individuals receiving HCA-DDSD-funded services;
Serve as a nurse generalist by providing clinical consultation and technical assistance on nursing and health-related issues to service providers, interdisciplinary teams, guardians, and DDSD staff supporting individuals with developmental disabilities;
Assist the Clinical Services Bureau with a variety of clinical and programmatic activities as assigned by the Bureau Chief, including supporting bureau priorities, special projects, and other duties as needed.
How does it get done?
The Senior Registered Nurse is responsible for:
Participating in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and training programs for nursing and non-nursing staff, as well as supporting quality improvement and quality assurance initiatives;
Supporting the operation of the Mortality Review Committee (MRC) by preparing cases for review, conducting mortality reviews, tracking committee meeting outcomes, maintaining relevant data, and developing summary reports;
Actively participating in MRC meetings by presenting case summaries, facilitating structured problem analysis, and contributing to case discussions. Providing clinical consultation and technical expertise to other program areas within the Developmental Disabilities Supports Division (DDSD;
Collecting, documenting, and maintaining mortality review data and related records;
Supporting the Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation (ANE) prevention initiative by conducting health and wellness visits and promoting best practices in health and safety;
Collecting, documenting, and maintaining mortality review data and related records;
Preparing and developing the annual Mortality Review Report. Responding to inquiries and requests from internal and external stakeholders while ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, standards, and policies governing New Mexico's Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS).Demonstrating proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
Providing technical assistance and clinical consultation on nursing and health-related issues by delivering training and orientation to provider nurses, interpreting policies and regulations, reviewing general event reports and conducting follow-up activities, consulting with provider nurses regarding complex health care issues and emergencies, and performing ongoing health and safety monitoring to support quality services and positive outcomes for individuals receiving services.

Minimum Qualification
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course Certificate as a condition of continued employment within 45 days of employment.
Employment is subject to a pre-employment criminal history background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other trainings as required.
Working Conditions
This position is based in both community and office settings and requires occasional travel within the metropolitan area. Work is performed in a standard cubicle office environment with extensive use of a personal computer, telephone, copier, fax machine, and other office equipment. Duties require sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and occasionally lifting or moving items weighing up to 30 pounds.
