Position Summary:The Village of Pleasant Hill is seeking a dependable, self-motivated individual to serve as a Class I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator while also performing the duties of Street Superintendent. This position is responsible for active participation of daily operation and maintenance of the Village's wastewater treatment facilities, collection system, streets, stormwater infrastructure, and other public works operations.
This is a hands-on position requiring independent decision-making, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to providing excellent public service. All staff are encouraged to establish positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, neighboring Villages/City like personnel, state/local agencies and associations, city management and staff and the public.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Wastewater Treatment Operations
- Operate and maintain the Village wastewater treatment plant in accordance with Ohio EPA regulations.
- Collect wastewater samples and perform required laboratory testing.
- Maintain accurate operational records, reports, and log books.
- Submit required reports to Ohio EPA.
- Inspect, clean, and maintain lift stations.
- Responsible for the cleanliness and general housekeeping of the plant; paints equipment and buildings as required; sweeps and washes down floors, walls, paved areas, etc.
- Responsible for ground keeping tasks such as removing weeds, trimming trees and plants, pick up debris, mow lawn, water and otherwise maintain landscaped areas.
- Train and/or direct the work of OIT personnel or part time employees.
- Respond to sewer backups and emergency wastewater issues.
- Inspect and maintain the sanitary sewer collection system.
- Coordinate repairs with contractors when necessary.
- Perform preventive maintenance on pumps, motors, blowers, valves, and treatment equipment.
· Maintain chemical inventories and order supplies.

·Street Department Responsibilities
- Supervise and participate in street maintenance operations.
- Repair potholes, patch pavement, and perform roadway maintenance.
- Maintain sidewalks, curbs, alleys, and municipal parking lots.
- Operate snowplows and spread salt during winter weather.
- Trim trees and vegetation within street rights-of-way.
- Install and maintain street signs.
- Maintain storm sewers, catch basins, and ditches.
- Operate backhoe, dump trucks, tractors, mowers, and other equipment.
- Coordinate utility locates and assists contractors working within Village rights-of-way.
- Obtain water meter reading for residents in the Village three times a week.
· Assist the Village Administrator in planning annual maintenance programs and capital improvement projects.
- Prepare cost estimates for projects and equipment purchases
- Recommend improvements to Village infrastructure
- Supervise seasonal or part-time employees as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA safety regulations and Village safety policies..

- Village Properties and Grounds Maintenance
- Maintain Village properties, and public spaces.
- Ground keeping tasks such as removing weeds, trimming trees and plants, pick up debris, mow lawn, water and otherwise maintain landscaped areas on all Village buildings and grounds.
- Assist with community events by setting up barricades, tables, tents, lighting, and decorations.
- Remove litter and maintain cleanliness of public property during daily frequent checks.

- Equipment Maintenance
- Perform preventive maintenance on Village vehicles and equipment.
- Keep maintenance records.
- Coordinate repairs with outside vendors.
- Ensure equipment is safe and ready for use.
· Inventory equipment and supplies yearly.

·General Public Works
- Assist with water line repairs when needed.
- Respond to after-hours emergencies.
- Assist during storms, flooding, and other emergency situations.
- Work cooperatively with Village staff, contractors, utility companies, and residents.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Village Manager or Mayor.

- Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Possess a valid Ohio driver's license, with the ability to maintain insurability.
- Possess a valid Ohio Class I Wastewater Operator License
- Basic computer skills.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to read maps, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and with others.
- Obtain Class 1 Water Operators license within a year.

- Experience operating a wastewater treatment plant.
- Experience with collection system maintenance.
- Experience operating heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of public works operations.
- Welding, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical repair experience.
- Experience with grant-funded infrastructure projects.

- Physical Requirements: The employee must be able to:
- Lift up to 75 pounds.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Climb ladders and stairs.
- Enter confined spaces (with proper training).
- Walk, stand, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
- Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency call-outs.
Work Environment
Work is performed in wastewater treatment facilities, lift stations, streets, parks, garages, and other municipal properties. Exposure to moving machinery, wastewater, chemicals, traffic, weather extremes, noise, and confined spaces is expected.
