Job Overview
MASH (Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital) is seeking an Internal Medicine RVT/Veterinary Technician or an experienced Veterinary Assistant. This position offers an opportunity to join an established and expanding team dedicated to providing exceptional emergency and specialty medical care to veterinary patients in Hollywood.
In this role, you will assist the internist with a wide range of diagnostics, including:
- Endoscopic procedures (GI, nasal, urinary, airway)
- Joint taps
- Bone marrow aspirates
- Ultrasound
- CT scans
- Fluoroscopy
- Endoscopic/nasal gastric tube placements
- Surgical/interventional procedures involving sterility and operating room
Additionally, responsibilities include filling prescriptions, taking X-rays, obtaining lab samples, and engaging directly with clients through phone calls, email, and in-person conversations. Key Duties and Qualifications

- Minimum 3 years of experience in the veterinary field; 2-3 years in specialty or emergency
- Experience in Internal Medicine preferred
- RVT license preferred, but not required
- Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients
- Provide compassionate care for all patients
- Communicate interdepartmentally to coordinate patient care
- Maintain open communication with staff and doctors, demonstrating a willingness to learn
Technical Skills & Procedures
- Anesthesia: Inducing, intubation, monitoring, and recovering patients after anesthesia. Previous Anesthesia experience preferred
- Imaging: Set up for ultrasound and radiology procedures
- Venous Access: Utilize advanced technical skills proficiently for Venipuncture, IVC placement, advanced venipuncture, and venous access
- Calculations: Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
- Patient Discharge: Including basic client education such as insulin injection, SQ fluid, and feeding tube demonstrations
- Full Technician Skill Utilization: Including endoscopy (GI, nasal, urinary, airway), joint taps, bone marrow aspirates, fluoroscopy, CT scans, and cleaning and maintaining equipment following procedures
- Laboratory Procedures: Experience with various in-house lab procedures such as CBC and chemistry machines, manual platelet counts, WBC differentials, etc.
- Advanced Equipment (Plus): Experience using a mechanical ventilator and high-flow oxygen
Knowledge & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of various medical conditions such as diabetes, chronic kidney disease, ITP, IMHA, etc.
- Familiarity with general cleaning and sanitation practices, including isolation protocols for contagious diseases
- Familiarity with Fear Free animal handling and restraint techniques.
- Familiarity with RECOVER CPR guidelines
- Excellent communication and customer service skills. Must have strong listening, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- Must have a collaborative approach to patient care
- Reliable, energetic, and able to balance several tasks at once while remaining calm and positive
Physical Requirements
- Stand for up to 80% of a 10-hour shift
- Walk up to 50% of a 10-hour shift
- Sit for approximately 20% of a 10-hour shift
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Frequently bend, squat, kneel, and reach above shoulder height
- Occasionally climb and twist
- Perform repetitive hand movements for tasks such as grasping and fine manipulation
- Utilize all sensory skills (speech, vision, smell, touch, hearing), corrected to near-normal levels
Work Environment
- Over 90% of time is spent indoors
- Exposure to temperature and humidity changes indoors
- Frequent exposure to cleaning chemicals
Job Type
Part time: Fri & Sat (10 hour shifts, 20 hours/week)
Pay
$28+ per hour depending on experience & skill level (plus overnight and weekend differentials where applicable)
The pay for this position is determined by level of experience, licensure, credentials and education
