Job Summary:
Application Support Engineer supporting BNY’s Depositary Receipts Platform Engineering team. This role focuses on production support, system reliability, and performance of critical on-prem enterprise applications, with strong involvement in root cause analysis, automation, and DevOps practices. The position is based in Pittsburgh, PA (500 Ross St) or Lake Mary, FL, hybrid with 4+ days onsite and participation in weekend/production releases as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production Support & Incident Management: Diagnose and resolve complex application and database issues in live environments; perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes to prevent recurrence.
- Application & Database Performance: Monitor system health, tune SQL Server performance (queries, deadlocks, execution plans, stored procedures), and ensure stability, scalability, and availability.
- System Reliability & Automation: Improve operational efficiency through scripting and automation; support CI/CD, DevOps, and SRE practices to enhance deployment, resiliency, and capacity planning.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, infrastructure, and product teams to resolve issues, implement enhancements, and improve end-to-end client experience.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Maintain troubleshooting guides, incident reports, and knowledge articles.
- Platform Ownership (On-Prem Focus): Support primarily on-prem applications (not public cloud), including patching and gradual ownership of additional systems over time.
Qualifications:
- 8–10 years of experience in application support, production engineering, or technical operations (8+ acceptable if all core skills are met).
- Strong hands-on experience with Java (code reading/debugging), SQL Server, Angular, Kafka, and enterprise application troubleshooting.
- Advanced SQL performance tuning and database analysis skills.
- Experience with DevOps/SRE, Agile environments, and automation tools (Ansible, Docker, Linux, Python, CI/CD).
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Splunk, AppDynamics).
- Experience with Unix/Linux, scripting, job scheduling, and application servers (e.g., Tomcat).
- Exposure to AI tooling and automation (e.g., AI agents, Copilot) preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Experience:
- Financial services or securities industry background.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or S3 (helpful but not required due to on-prem focus).
- Advanced degree.
